We came here in March 2012 when we were holidaying in NYC. It was our favourite restaurant of the trip so we had to come back when we came to NYC again this year. The place hasn't changed. Moles are amazing and better than any I've eaten elsewhere. If you're sick of chains restaurants serving up the same boring Mexican... More

we have been coming here for quite a few years and have always enjoyed it. do not come here expecting a normal restaurant you are basically going to someones former house with miss matched tables and chairs but great old school cooked food. this year we noticed they are doing set menus and set prices which i suppose is a... We were staying in Soho and I researched the surrounding area for places to eat. We wanted to make sure we visited a "good" Mexican restaurant while we were there, and I found El Maguey y La Tuna on Trip Advisor. Let me assure you - this place does not disappoint! I've only ever been to Mexican restaurants in London... More

The food and margaritas were good - our server was very nice too. But from the reviews I expecting more than white linoleum floors, mis matched diner tables lined up in rows - zero atmosphere. If you are just looking for mexican food you should be happy enough.

Very quaint restaurant, a bit cozy and a bit romantic. The owner is a very sweet woman who seems to appreciate her guests and tries to learn more about them, where we're from and what it is like for her to live there. We ordered the "Best Nachos Ever" as said on their menu, and also split a Jumbo Chicken... More

This is my favourite of the restaurants we visited on our recent trip to New York. It's unassuming, welcoming and delicious. Our waiter was friendly and suggested which molés would best accompany our enchiladas and fajitas. After the meal (and several frozen margaritas) the owner, Maria, came and chatted to us. Highly recommended.

My husband, our teenage daughter and I were visiting NYC over the Labor Day weekend. I had looked on TA for a Mexican restaurant that we could have dinner at and found El Maguey y La Tuna. The reviews sounded great so we decided to check it out. We made a reservation for 7:30 on a Saturday night and when... More

Based on the reviews I read, I was expecting much more. The menu that you see on thier website was not the menu that we had when we went there. Some of the reviews talk about burritos. There was not any burritos on thier menu. The food was still very good and still plenty to choose from. Margaritas were fantastic!... More

For the adults: The different moles were complex and authentic (try the Verde) and the margaritas fresh. For kids: authentic atmosphere with good simple foods, if needed, and the chance to try the Mexican sodas. 6:30 or earlier is a good time to show up with kids. Almost empty when we arrived on a Saturday night, but by the time... More

Read a couple of reviews and decided to venture out to the lower east side. The restaurant was more then we could have expected in every way. First, the restaurant itself has a great ambiance, with a really charming and warm feeling to it. Second the FOOD!! from the guacamole to the enchiladas poblano it just kept getting better and...
