Worth going to

Nice place. Not all that big (little tight) but that's OK. Food was very good and reasonably priced. If you want brunch make sure you ask for the menu.

When you get to this side of town, there is a lot of noise on the food map. Trying to find what you want, when there are so many competing for your time and money can be incredibly confusing. I'd read a bit about this neighbourhood gem. I made a booking on the day, they were relaxed and it wasn't... More

Out of the way, compact, unassuming, SIMPLY DIVINE. It's the kind of restaurant you can't help but make friends... not just because you're so close to each other but because it fosters that kind of environment. When everything is done perfectly from food to service, it breeds happiness. Perfection.

This warm and inviting neighborhood French restaurant serves up the classics without attitude. I'm afraid I never get too adventurous with the menu because the frisée salad and steak frites is so good it's hard to order anything else.

I recently visited the restaurant again with my wife and three grand daughters. We have done this every time we are in NY and we all love it. It was a great experience . Food delicious and service impeccable. Highly reccomended

A friend of mine told me about Lucien. I went there for the first time with my niece on 5th November 2008, the day after Obama had won the elections. It was a magic time in NY with positive vibes for all of the US. We walked into the restaurant and met Lucien who immediately spoke French to us, he... More

The staff are always friendly and take excellent care of us, even when it's busy. The food is excellent (my wife and I shared a rabbit dish several years ago that we still remember with great fondness). This where we go when we want to really enjoy our meal out... and Lucien has never disappointed us. It's a special occasion... More

My wife and I were looking for a restaurant near a movie theatre on E. Houston in Manhattan.Checking many reviews of this area Lucien had very few detractors.Since we were going to eat very early we did not call for reservations.(5pm).I decided to call to confirm that they would be serving dinner that early and was told kitchen was open... Lucien is one of our faves! Small place and nearly always a wait but it's so worth it! Great staff, super friendly and the Maitre de who has been there for years is amazing! The bread is always fresh and crispy. Steak frites are amazing as is the frisee salad. The place has a fabulous ambience and is always inviting.... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
