So very Lower East Side

As a vegetarian it is always tricky ordering food in a French restaurant. However, they did have quite a tasty vegetable dish as well as fabulous French Fries:) nice wine and excellent service. Overall a great experience. It was crowded as it was a Friday night and this is one small restaurant. I... read more

My friends told us that we had to join them at their favorite French Bistro in NYC and while I was a little skeptical, I agreed to their plan to meet them at 1st Avenue and 1st Street on the lower east side for what turned out to be one of the most exceptional dinners I've eaten at any restaurant.... Was visiting New York with friends in August 2015. A friend who was with us recommended Lucien as he had been there the year before. We were not disappointed. From the excellent table service to the to the fantastic food and wine , I couldn't think of a better way to spend our first night in NYC . Definitely pay... More

This spot is always ready to please... the food, especially the Rabbit is exceptional. One of my favorite apps is the octopus. If your looking for a small, lively and a great menu, then Lucian's s for you. I would highly suggest ending the evening with their perfect coffee martini.

Have visited a fair few restaurants over the years, both on business and with the family and by total chance we wondered into Lucien. Well, what to say!...the best Bistro in New York ? Simple answer, YES! Great atmsosphere, friendly service and excellent French cuisine. Something else as well, that certain indefinable ex-factor that is missing from the higher end... More

I loved this place. They don't care you if have a reservation or not. Its a spot to see and be seen. Cool joint. All the cry babies who said stuff about waiting, then go somewhere else... I hate crybaby entitled ding dong anyway.

I try to get back to Lucien whenever I'm in NY. The roast chicken is my favorite but the steak frites is a great choice as well. I also recommend the beet salad and always wish I could buy their bread to take home! Yes, it is often crowded but this is part of the charm. If you're willing to... More

Definitely not coming back. We booked a table for 9:30pm. As soon as we arrived we saw the place completely packed. They weren't very helpful in telling us how long we had to wait until we had a table ready. We asked a couple of times. They kept on telling us a table was paying. That went for 30 more... More

Rose de Provence, escargots, steak tartare, and tarte tatin. All delicious. All reasonably priced. And wonderful service, particularly by Marion. Surely worth a detour!

First, we waited 45 minutes for our table. Honestly, I've never waited that long for a reserved table in my life. Anyway, we had nice cocktails, and waited . . . I was hungry and eager. My opinion of the food - MIXED. Excellent were: the hanger steak in mushroom sauce, perfectly cooked, and the rabbit in mustard sauce, very... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
