Established in 1936, Monkey Bar was returned to its former glory in 2009 by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. The dining room's lush red leather banquettes and dim, attractive lighting have restored the fizzy thrill of dining in a restaurant - both attractive and cozy - and harken back to a bygone era when a gentleman never left the house without a tie and a lady always had a pair of white gloves in her purse. Wonderful atmosphere - ok food

We were a group of 7 and had a very pleasant dinner after a long day of meeting. Our server, Chris was outstanding. He was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, courteous and very tuned to our needs. He seemed passionate. The food was very good : the NY strip, the fish options as well as the appetizers. The atmosphere was... More

March 20th a Friday and its freezing in New York. We actually were staying in the L’eysee Hotel home of the monkey bar, now as a rule we try not to eat in hotel restaurants while in big cities. Like good tourists we had spent the morning viewing the sights, and suddenly it was passed 3pm and we hadn’t had... More

Wanted to have one last drink in New York City before heading home and since this place was right next to the hotel thought we'd give it a try. The reviews stated the service wasn't that good but we had a great experience. Spoke with two bartenders and both were super helpful and one was cracking jokes and just having... More

We visited Monkey Bar on a Friday evening and it was extremely busy. Fortunately we had booked a table in advance. An extensive wine list was provided and the sommelier provided great information and we actually had a bottle of High Peak (I think it was called that?) which wasn't actually on the menu but if you like full bodied... If you are visiting NYC it is worth considering this little place. For. The outside it does not look like anything special. Once inside you'll soon change your mind. This is a great spot with a good atmosphere. We visited for dinner on a Friday night. The bar was busy with live piano music and we had reserved a table... More

It was my first bar in NY and it was amazing! A lot of people, noisily and funny. Coctail card is very interesting and original staff is funny and music is good. Good place for dating and meetings ;)

My wife and I both had fish; she had the crab cake and said that it was the best she has ever eaten. I had the Scottish Salmon that was excellent as well. The sides were extra but with generous portions. Service was excellent.

Just stopped in for a drink (restaurant/bar connected to our hotel) and it was HOPPING. Felt very "retro" -- food looked good but we just had a glass of wine. If I was in the area, I would go back and have a meal. Burgers looked fantastic. You just got the feeling that this was a hidden gem. Guy playing... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
