Established in 1936, Monkey Bar was returned to its former glory in 2009 by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. The dining room's lush red leather banquettes and dim, attractive lighting have restored the fizzy thrill of dining in a restaurant - both attractive and cozy - and harken back to a bygone era when a gentleman never left the house without a tie and a lady always had a pair of white gloves in her purse. Monkey Bar's menu boasts American classics alongside seasonal dishes using sustainable and organic products whenever possible.

The Monkey Bar is one of Graydon Carter's do-overs (Vanity Fair Magazine and the Waverly Inn of scrumptious mac and cheese with truffles) and has a great gathering space for happening people. We recently had a family reunion dinner at the Monkey Bar. The service was very professional, we were never rushed, the waiter was super attentive and was always there when we needed him. There was a lot of lively conversation going on, and he masterfully navigated around us without ever intruding. The murals by Ed Sorel of Jazz Age icons... More

Love the look of the place. Cocktails are great, service great. Staff is super knowledgable and GM is very kind. Didn't get to try the food but would like to. Highly recommended.

My wife and I hosted her son and daughter-in-law on a Saturday evening. It was a good choice for several reasons, the most important of which is that--though not pretentious in any way--the food was good and the atmosphere just casual enough for us just to have a good time. I will admit that the price, with tip, was a... More

This place has amazing cocktails and food! There is usually Jazz music playing or a pianist to add real atmosphere to the small bar area. It is cozy and has booths.

Famous, fun bar in the Hotel Elysee. The service was quick and they have a nice selection of appetizers.

The Monkey Bar is something everyone must experience. The walls are so interesting and trying to pick out whose who is fun. If you are lucky enough to find a table at the bar, ask for Michael. He is an awesome waiter. Micheal is very knowledgeable, and will recommend the perfect cocktail. The Bartender has the most interesting "shake" so... More

This place is great. Decorated with a myriad of monkey images the bar and restaurant offer a blast from the past. The staff is pleasant and engaging. The bar itself is intimate so make sure you get there early or late, or in between if you like crowds. Interesting cocktails to tempt the palate.

I was there for lunch which considering the location and the venue was very reasonable. I only had the very delicious burger but in the Monkey Bar you can feel like Fred Astaire while eating it. There is something wonderful about the ambience of this old speakeasy type bar. It is a still-vibrant relic of a New York long gone.... More
