Established in 1936, Monkey Bar was returned to its former glory in 2009 by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. The dining room's lush red leather banquettes and dim, attractive lighting have restored the fizzy thrill of dining in a restaurant - both attractive and cozy - and harken back to a bygone era when a gentleman never left the house without a tie and a lady always had a pair of white gloves in her purse. Monkey Bar's menu boasts American classics alongside seasonal dishes using sustainable and organic products whenever possible.

This is a great bar with an interesting history, opened many years ago it serves great cocktails and has a wonderful range of quality Bourbon. the bar snacks are excellent. Great also for late night drinks after theatre or dinner

Found this bar whilst staying in the hotel next door, and couldn't wait to visit again when we returned to New York. very busy the night we visited, so short wait until we had a table -try the house cocktail, it's delicious!

Loved the service. Loved the food, MUCh better than the Zagat rating, as I was promised by a good NYC frined. Prices are good. This is a good spot in NY - give it a whirl.

Elegant tablecloths, leather bankettes make this an easy place to relax. It is not overly noisy. The Bar attached is VERY noisy.

We experienced Monkey Bar for the first time this trip to New York, and we will definitely return! Loved the atmosphere (a little swanky but comfortable) and the drinks were exceptional. The Spring Time martini is one of the best I've ever had. We were always there post-show and it was pretty full but not over-crowded. It's a perfect spot... More

We've had dinner in the restaurant (as opposed to the bar) a few times now and every time they have nailed it. It's the kind of elegance I thought had vanished from NYC. Beautifully prepared dishes, simple yet sumptuous. The decor is lovely, it always makes us smile. The service is surprisingly attentive considering how busy the restaurant was, another... More

A beautiful setting at the back of the Elysee Hotel. Tables spaced far apart, exceptional decor with hand painted frescos on the walls. Very attentive professional service. Menu was simple and covered a wide range of food. Each dish was perfectly prepared. I had the chicken and it was flavourful and properly prepared. Desserts are worth sharing. Portions just right.... Nice restaurant with nice atmosphere. Food is quite European style (smaller portions than usual in US and more sophisticated). We had really good oysters (it was first time we liked them in USA). Wide selection of wine. Professional service. It is not cheap restaurant but I can recommend it without questions.

We saw them opening up their roof terrace and it looked very inviting! What a great suntrap - the craft beer was good and the sharing plates were excellent. Especially the sweet potato fries and sliders.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
