Established in 1936, Monkey Bar was returned to its former glory in 2009 by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. The dining room's lush red leather banquettes and dim, attractive lighting have restored the fizzy thrill of dining in a restaurant - both attractive and cozy - and harken back to a bygone era when a gentleman never left the house without a tie and a lady always had a pair of white gloves in her purse. Monkey Bar's menu boasts American classics alongside seasonal dishes using sustainable and organic products whenever possible.

Loved it try the fish.

I recommend this place. Great looking place with a fantastic atmosphere. We decided on the Scottish salmon as we had had our fill of steak and it was the right choice. Price was high but we've certainly paid more in NY. Great service helped to make the whole experience wonderful.

Nice restaurant with nice atmosphere. Food is quite European style (smaller portions than usual in US and more sophisticated). We had really good oysters (it was first time we liked them in USA). Wide selection of wine. Professional service. It is not cheap restaurant but I can recommend it without questions.

We saw them opening up their roof terrace and it looked very inviting! What a great suntrap - the craft beer was good and the sharing plates were excellent. Especially the sweet potato fries and sliders.

The Monkey Bar is a long time famous restaurant and lounge in New York City. We stopped by for lunch and was very disappointed in the crab cakes sandwich we had. The carb cake had no taste and was small for $27 served with potato chips. One of our associates had a burger that was good.I would hope that the... More

My Wife being a fan of "Sex and the City" had to go here for cocktails, and I'm glad we did. Lovely little place, not over the top with price, and the staff were friendly. We only drank here, because the restaurant had closed, but that was good for us - I could get some photos of the Mrs without... More

If you want small, more casual dining (small, shareable plates for less than $20), grab a table in the bar area. It's buzzy in that wonderfully New York way: the trio of blue suits in the corner is getting a bit shouty after their third round of martinis; the co-ed clutch of young co-workers have no reason not to keep... Stopped in here while waiting for our room to be ready and were pleasantly surprised. The service was good and the food delicious and priced about right for midtown Manhattan. We eat in the bar which I enjoyed but they also have a cool dining room that would be a great place for dinner or lunch. Actually saw a few... More

What a great place, cool little cocktail bar and a restaurant that is just perfect; good menu, great service, great ambience. This is exactly what we had hoped and expected from our first night in NY. So good, we did it again during our visit and it was every bit as good the 2nd time.

The first room is the cocktails bar, I wish we had come earlier to sit for a drink and enjoy the piano. Then comes the dining rooms, a "back in time" feeling. The service was perfect, very attentive waiters, quiet room (background discreet music) which means you can actually have a discussion. Fine food reasonable priced. I recommend this place... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
