Wonderful Experience

My friend cannot tolerate very spicy foods, but loves Indian. We explained this to our waiter who was very understanding and helped her pick out courses which she loved. Wanting a near to hotel Indian restaurant, gave this a try (Darbar was our former Eastside Indian). This place so wow'd us that we ate there twice in recent NYC visit. My criterion for Asian food is whether they add the third dimension of flavor that s often missing in USA adaptations of foreign foods. This place does it is... More

This is one of the best Indian restaurants in NYC, with a great selection of items and each item quite unique, authentic and very flavorful, and presented very nicely. The staff were friendly and courteous and the prices manageable. Definitely worth visiting for people who love Indian food.

We had a reservation and were promptly seated, although tables are very close and shortly after our arrival, we were asked to move into a corner table to accommodate a larger group.. Dinner started out well enough with a good wine list and a complimentary tasting appetizer. I ordered lamb/spinach, good but rather bland- its a favorite dish, but it... More

The food is good but the decor and space are shabby and a apology. 3 Stars because it is 4.5 Stars for Food minus 2 for the space. 0.5 Stars added because of food! The place is cramped, the folks at the next table are half a feet away ! The entrance to the place is grimy.

This small restaurant is just east of midtown and easy to reach by taxi or on foot. We had a delicious Saturday night dinner of Manchurian cauliflower and Tandoori Chicken with a couple of appetizers and Naan. Food, service and atmosphere were all wonderful. I highly recommend a reservation because the place was packed by 8:00 PM.

Very nice food; diligent staff. I didn't have a reservation but they found me nice table in the back. Chicken Korma was excellent, bread great.

I visited Amma for lunch. They have two lunch special menus as well as an a la carte menu. I tried the $11.95 two course lunch (3 courses $16.95) because I have a habit of eating too much in Indian restaurants, especially if there is a buffet, which Amma does not have. My first course was really a large hors... More

Came by myself during a business trip and while I normally lean towards Italian or a Japanese izakaya in NY, tonight I felt like Indian. Did some digging and came across Alma as a good choice. Cozy dining room, very attentive service and a nice selection of dishes. I started with the spinach and mung bean salad and then devoured... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
