Amma is a gem. The place is very nice and the service is unbelievably good, but the thing that makes this place really amazing, is the perfectly prepared food!

Amma is a small, welcoming place with very attentive service. Our waiter went out of his way to recommend outstanding dishes and they even made a non-spicy dish for my wife that is not on the menu. They also have an outstanding wine list; we had an excellent bottle of Brunello at a very reasonable price. Highly recommend!

A week ago Laura and I went for an early dinner. We were greeted affably, and given a table in the middle of this narrow, long restaurant which was attractive: low lighting, a great feel. We ordered a bottle of Foris Pinot Gris; it was served cold by our friendly host. For appetizers we ordered idli upma (steamed rice flour... More

Found this restaurant through friends. Have visited several times and it is consistently good. It is small, but frequented by lovers of Indian food including UN diplomats who work nearby.

You can't miss with this place. The service is attentive and the food is top quality. We had the spinach chaat to start. Different than we've ever had and delicious. The samosas are good. The paneer was exceptional, as was the vegetable vindaloo. And they have a good wine list We will be back.

I chose Amma out of the many recommended Indian restaurants and was not disappointed. The food was superb, even the okra (okra? yuk!)--which was flash-fried and very much like flash-fried seaweed. The three of us (one a friend running in the Marathon) split an appetizer plate of veggie samosas (there was also a gratis house appetizer) and na'an. Then we... More

In a city with a lot of Indian restaurants, this place is near the top. Excellent, quick, unobtrusive service. Pretty standard (North) Indian menu. Table had a tandoori chicken, sag panir, rogan josh, cauliflower. All good - meat very tender and juicy. Good level of heat and spice. Better than average breads, house made acchar, excellent yellow dal. House made... More

I arrived hungry because I had high expectations from the Google and Zagat reviews. However, I was a bit let down. Given that I was quite hungry, the portions were small-ish and none of then had that "wow, great flavor". On the positive side, the dessert was a bread ball soaked in honey, which was quite good and tasted a... More

Been there many times and thought the food was very good, yesterday the food was really not up to par. It tastes like they changed chefs. Would give it another try because of all the other experiences I have had.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
