Very good but

Late night arriving in NY and recommended by Palace hotel concierge. Had the best mussels (New Zealand) ever. The white wine garlic broth terrific. My partner had the ahi tuna, also very good. My main course, a tomato based orzo with seafood was heavy and while the shrimp, scallops, and mussels... read more

We had lunch here on Friday. the good was good, but the restaurant was so loud that we couldn't hear each other. The table we were sat at was kind of in the way (there were better tables available) and the whole experience was a little disappointing.

We were seated so close to the next table and the table behind me . Too bad because the venue is nice . My starter (tuna tartar ) had nothing exceptional , bread was good. We had a Black Sea bass which was good but not exceptional either. Disappointing for the price, would have expected something better.

Made reservation my husband and I came for a lovely dinner had heard great things. On our arrival the restaurant was half full we were put at a table for two right beside a water and cutlery cart. My husband asked if we could be moved to a table for four. The response from a young lady was no that... More

Expensive but worth it, is my review. It was the day after the blizzard of Jan. 23, and the restaurant was populated albeit somewhat sparsely. We had wine from Santorini and a John Dory from their fresh fish selection ($70.00 for a fish for two), plus a Greek salad. Everything fresh and wonderful. Would like to go back when their... More

We come to NYC every year in January and its a ritual to eat at Avra! We love this restaurant! Every time I have to order the Loup de mer - Lean white fish mild and sweet with moist tender flakes. It just melts in your mouth! Ava is amazing every time. We are usually in a large party and... More

Really really good. Great starters, had the octopus which was great, the zucchini chips also v nice and the Greek salad with the authentic tomatoes Only glitch really the lamb kebab. Minced lamb and unfortunately not up to scratch so for $170 for 2 without alcohol that was a shame. Wd definitely go back tho

The food is very good but it is very noisy, extremely noisy. Fresh fish was outstanding. Service was good also.

We love this place and book it every time we're in town. You select your fresh seafood from the counter and it's cooked to order. The family and their staff are welcoming and always look after their guests. A firm favourite.

Vibrant environment and authentic feel, done perfectly, not too little or too much. Friendly and professional staff. Food was excellent and reasonably priced considering what you get. I want to try for dinner if lunch was this good!

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
