We went there for a Friday Lunch. First impressions were good both for the service and décor. The place was packed on a Friday for noon hour. There was hustle and bustle throughout the restaurant and the wait staff were attentive throughout. The menu features numerous fish entrees and we chose to go the safe route with Chicken and some... This kicked off an anniversary weekend to the Big Apple in a very tasty way. Outstanding seafood menu, cozy but not cramped taverna setting, and attentive service made this a great find especially in Midtown. We shared a firm but fresh calamari appetizer with herbed cheese stuffing, gently sauced flounder, and fasolakia (sautéed green beans). Portions were perfect for sharing.... More

So, I came here because I work in mid-town and had a work lunch where we wanted to sit outside. When I called they said they couldn’t guarantee outdoor seating but luckily when we got there, there was a table outside available. When I first got there I grabbed a drink at the bar to wait for the other party.... More

We were lucky enough to get a reservation for dinner on a Saturday night in New York City largely due to the fact that we ate at 9:30pm. Perfect timing for us AND it felt like we were actually in Greece where many restaurants don't even open until that time. But, it wasn't only the timing that was authentic--the food... More

The seafood here is as fresh as it comes. The service was also excellent. I was a bit worried about first because the restaurant is so large and was afraid it would be a tourist trap or just bad service. I am happy to say my gut instinct was very wrong. service was top notch, food was perfection. We had... More

We had lunch on a Saturday and loved this place! If we hadn't been a group of 6 we would have eaten outside in their lovely courtyard or sidewalk area. The appetizers were large and tasty, with the Lima beans in tomato sauce"Gigantes" the best of the three. I had the shrimp salad with arugula and goat cheese. It was... More

Ava puts out probably some of the best Greek seafood in the USA. Their is a selection of fresh seafood on display. They offer large fish dished that can be shared. The lamb chops are also excellent. The starters are also good and can be shared. The chefs know how to cook the seafood.Nice ambience.

Restaurant was right across for the hotel. It was well recommended by the hotel so we decided to try it. We were promptly seated but hardly enough room to get around. The spacing between tables were hardly adequate to get to my seat. The food was good but not spectacular as I was led to believe. The ratings in Tripadvisor... More

My son lives close by, so it's a no brainer to eat here. We've been to Avra numerous times over the years. The food is steps above the rest at the pricepoint. The waitstaff is very friendly and welcoming. But, the last 2 visits, our dishes sat on the table for a long time until they were removed. It's a... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
