Quiet, Delicious, and Romantic!

8 1/2 is always a go-to restaurant to take our friends when we travel up here. The hospitality is on point with any expectation you'd have for a NYC restaurant, especially when paying $$$. We are always looking for a place where we can talk quietly at dinner on a Saturday night, and had overlooked this place though we love the brunch. Everything we ate was delicious (salmon, duck), the service was impeccable, and there was even an amuse bouche (which in a restaurant with a $38 prix fixe is unheard of.) The decor... More

We went last night after having skipped it for approximately two years. This is a great venue with a lot of potential. I remembered loving the food here. It was not as good as I remembered. The quality was still good but the tast was a level or two down. We ordered the same items off the menu, the beef,... More

Enjoyed the elaborate Easter brunch they served. Many special items featured: carving stations, seafood. Really enjoyed. Unfortunately due to NY law we could not enjoy our brunch with mimosas (never would have guessed that in NYC). Great food and service!

Great spot for a business lunch, tables widely spaced and not noisy so can have a private conversation and not have to shout. Very fun, 60'ish décor, nice vibe. Food very good, service excellent and the prix fixe lunch is an excellent value. I was very pleasantly surprised and be back there again soon!

We had a sunday brunch here with my sister. The food is good, really nice selection of different types indeed. The service was mainly nice but the crepperie station staff was a disaster. Their service atitude was nonexistent. They even tried to ignore my sister as she was trying to order an omelette (I really mean this, it was unspeakable... More

Brasserie 8 1/2 is located on the lower level of 9 West 57th Street just off of Fifth Avenue. You'll see a large, six foot tall number 9 outside the building...otherwise you might well walk right past it not knowing there is a restuarant inside. Descending a sweeping staircase into a modern, sleek restaurant you will discover a wonderfully tempting... More

We live in midtown and the food here is good and the bar is retro and quiet. We went tonight for a drink and dinner. The place was packed to the gills with name tagged conventioneers. The people next to us at the bar were having 3 rye shots ( paying with tickets) then going out to get cocaine. We... More

Had a wonderful experience here. The staircase and room are worth a visit on their own. Like a movie set, with Picasso's. And food to match. Duck breast was the best ever. Service was professional but not stuffy. Will return later this month.

Liked my pate but it was fairly ordinary. Guinea hen was good. Wife had lobster bisque which had very little flavor. Her rotisserie chicken was just average.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
