Overpriced + Mediocre = Disappointment

If you want mediocre to poor food for astronomical prices, this is the place for you. $16 for a vegetarian entree that doesn't even come with rice? And naan bread that tastes like it's from a grocery store.

Sapphire is one of the best among several Indian restaurants I've tried in NYC. Good menu and offers lots of little extra's that make Indian food such a delight. Nice setting, too and sufficiently quite so it is usually possible to carry on a conversation there (all too rare in many NY places). Everything is also very professional thanks to... More

I had the mixed tandoori platter for dinner and it was excellent - it had lamb, chicken, vegetables and shrimp. Be forewarned, rice and naan bread are not included and that added to the cost of an already expensive ($26) entree (but this is midtown Manhattan, after all). The order of naan ($5) came with only two pieces, hardly a... More

Coming from London I'm accustomed to good Indian food, and Indian restaurants in New York can sometimes fall short. Happily, Sapphire is an exception. The food is delicious, and the service, while not fawning, is professional and efficient. For vegetarians, the tandoori vegetable entree is a large and satisfying main dish; my friends had the lamb saag and chicken korma,... More

I came in here at lunch time to see their menu and veggie options. As soon as the waiter saw that I was interested in the lunch special, he pushed me aside and helped the next few customers to their tables before coming back to answer my questions. The food was all right but didn't make up for the bad... More

Lunch time Indian buffet is well prepared with a number of choices. Service was fine ( it is a buffet, after all...). It is a bit pricey compared to other Indian Buffet places, but considering the number of people there on a Thursday afternoon, it seems to be a pretty popular place.

We have unfortunately dined here more than once due to friends apparent love of several dishes. THe haughty attitude of serves make this place a poor destination of anyone who likes to dine casually and enjoy there meals. The waiters were surly and rude and certainly not accurate in completing their tasks. Never again, even for friends would I cross... More

We visited this place for the second time in a year. The first time we were with friends and the long wait was filled with chatter. This time the service really "sucked". They have an extremely poor attitude and they will not get my money ever again. the manager should be brought to task at the shoddy manner in which... More

I have been to many Indian restaurants, and this one certainly ranks high on my list. The food was good and the service excellent.

Generally we avoid restaurants in crowded, touristy locations because they tend to be overpriced and don't care about the customers that much. But when you're starving, you don't have a choice. So we stopped in here and were pleasantly surprised with the food. The service was OK...not friendly, but efficient and professional. We knew about the dishes and what to... More
