Attractive restaurant - Good Thai Food

New Topaz is small and cozy. The service is excellent and they are more than happy to 'tone down' the heat on their dishes for those who prefer it on the mild side. Two people at our table preferred it that way and two of us liked some heat. We all were very satisfied with our dishes, For... read more

Our friends took us to this restaurant. They said it was named Topaz when they were in NYC a few years ago. It is not a very large place so reservations are suggested. We shared the coco calamari, deep fried spring rolls, whole deep fired snapper, and chicken with peanut sauce. All were tasty with Thai beer.

We ordered pad thai chicken, green curry shrimp, crying tiger (beef dish), pra lad prik (red snapper dish), chicken satay and coco calamari. All tasted delicious except for the following comments: - the shrimps were kind of small - the beef were just a few pieces - the veggies in the dishes were not authentic Thai Service was prompt and... It was late and we found out Topaz was open. We had a just OK Thai dinner. We know they were about to close. We appreciate your accommodating us. It was not memorable.

We first ordered the red snapper but it was dry and came with the entire fish, head and all. Reminded us of the Christmas Story Christmas dinner scene at the Chinese restaurant. We tried it and sent it back, just too well done and flavorless. Ordered the Thai Chicken Basil and the Dancing Chicken with sides of white rice. The... More

This place is pretty good overall, but the last time I ate there in May 2015, I ordered Phad Kee Mao, which is normally not spicy, and my hair just about caught fire, it was so hot. Not sure if I offended the chef, but wowza! Makes me hesitant to go back.

Some of the best Thai food I've ever had - The spring rolls, curry, pad thai, and coconut rice were all amazing! The service was friendly and efficient. The pricing is relatively reasonable. The restaurant is very small inside, but looks and feels great. Conveniently located right near Carnegie Hall. I highly recommend!

No one asked how our meals were. No one asked what spice levels we would like. Maybe because we were a large group. They may have been overwhelmed. my shrimp and chicken was barely passable. only 2 shrimp. I enjoyed the spring roll appetizer.

The food was good but the service was poor. Would have enjoyed another cocktail but could not get the waiters to come back around. To bad, because I really enjoyed the meal.

Couple of years ago I came here and ate Pad Thai for the first time. I liked it so much. Later on, I ate Pad Thai in numerous other restaurants in Europe and US, but none of them were as good as the one from Topaz. I wasn't sure if it was because it was my first encounter with Pad... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
