Very nice experience, food pretty good.

We ate here for my husband's birthday. The setting was nice, though a little dark. We sat at a small table for two next to a wall (luckily with a radiator on it, because it was not that warm on a cold March day), with a small table divider separating us from the next diners. We ordered the tasting... read more

Travelling in New York with my vegetarian friend I was amazed at just how good the food can be. Hangawi was no exception. Take your shoes off at the door and relax! Their hot pots are delicious, can't wait to return!

All right,I haven't eqten in every vegetarian or veggie friendly restaurant in NYC, but I've tried many. This one is superb. My wife and I have eaten here 3 times now and been totally wowed. Can't wait to return the next time we're in NYC. Try the Mongolian hot pot.

We went there for lunch and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. From the moment we entered and took our shoes off and sat down to when we were done, the service and attention was wonderful. The choices are many and for vegetarians like us, this place was awesome and a lot to choose from. We would definitely come back hear again... More

Stumbled upon this place almost by accident, but saw the good reviews and went. Loved the detail with the lowered table and as none from the party was experienced with the Korean kitchen we choose the Prix Fix menu with 6 courses. It was truely a taste journey with lots of new and varied tastes as well as some very... More

Went here for dinner with a group of mainly non vegan/vegetarians. There is no meat, fish or poultry on the menu fyi. The closest you'll get is tofu or mushroom. We walk in with our snowy shoes and boots and learn we must take them off to dine. You then walk in your (hopefully) stocking feet to your table which... More

In a snapshot, a vegetarian korean experience. I'm not a vegetarian, but a friend who was visiting NYC was, so after seeing good reviews online I suggested Hangawi. Great decision. Lovely setting, where you take your shoes off when you enter, before being seated into a recessed floor, with heated floor to keep your toes warm. Staff were able to... More

Beautiful food and a lovely atmosphere. Visited here on our first trip to NYC and had to go back on a return visit. Loved the Iced Tea, Bimbimbab & Kimchi soup. I'm getting hungry thinking about it.

Dining here is a (vegetarian) experience, not just a meal. And an experience I quite enjoyed. You walk in and remove your shoes. The tables are sunken into the floor and have warmers built into the lower floor underneath them, so toasty toes. We ordered the 3 course for $25 lunch special (I believe for restaurant month/week). 1st courses of... More

I am not sure if it was the atmosphere, the seating with a heated floor, or the sake, but this place had me so relaxed on a cold Monday night in February. In town for a business trip, I took a cab to Hangawi for a solo dinner. I could not get in until 8:30! After leaving my shoes at... More

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
