Vegan Restaurant

Went here for dinner with a group of mainly non vegan/vegetarians. There is no meat, fish or poultry on the menu fyi. The closest you'll get is tofu or mushroom. We walk in with our snowy shoes and boots and learn we must take them off to dine. You then walk in your (hopefully) stocking feet to... read more

In a snapshot, a vegetarian korean experience. I'm not a vegetarian, but a friend who was visiting NYC was, so after seeing good reviews online I suggested Hangawi. Great decision. Lovely setting, where you take your shoes off when you enter, before being seated into a recessed floor, with heated floor to keep your toes warm. Staff were able to... More

Beautiful food and a lovely atmosphere. Visited here on our first trip to NYC and had to go back on a return visit. Loved the Iced Tea, Bimbimbab & Kimchi soup. I'm getting hungry thinking about it.

Dining here is a (vegetarian) experience, not just a meal. And an experience I quite enjoyed. You walk in and remove your shoes. The tables are sunken into the floor and have warmers built into the lower floor underneath them, so toasty toes. We ordered the 3 course for $25 lunch special (I believe for restaurant month/week). 1st courses of... More

I am not sure if it was the atmosphere, the seating with a heated floor, or the sake, but this place had me so relaxed on a cold Monday night in February. In town for a business trip, I took a cab to Hangawi for a solo dinner. I could not get in until 8:30! After leaving my shoes at... More

Dinner around 5 pm on a Saturday. Very nice atmosphere and top service. Really a nice, warm and welcoming restaurant. The food was in our opinion just ok. Steamed Dumplings were not really warm, while the kale salad was actually very cold. Almost too cold to eat. As main dish we chose the rice with vegetables, both spicy. Was a... More

We made our reservation for 3 people with some trepidation. I am a sushiophile and a Meat Eater to the end. I thought it would be an interesting change of pace. I have always wanted to try Hangawi as it is rated #1 Vegetarian in NYC. I figured if we are going to do this then lets start at the... More

This place is a unique experience. When you walk in, and give them your name for your reservation (because you really need to call first and make a reservation at least 1-2 weeks in advance especially thursday-saturday) you will be prompted to remove your shoes. They put them away for you and have a filing system to know which table... More

My daughter, who is vegan, had been to Hangawi once and highly recommended it for dinner when we came to NYC. I would like to be vegan but don't like many of the foods that vegans eat, and my husband prefers meat, but the reviews raved about the food so we decided to try it. It was definitely one of... Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
