We arrived on a Sunday at 5pm without a reservation and was seated promptly. Everything about this place was Zen, elegant and relaxing. I kicked off my shoes at the door and got cozy at the dinner table. Once seated I was transformed into a world of vegan bliss. The tofu vegetables in brown sauce was scrumptious. Our waitress was... A very nice and Zen like interior, with fresh vegetarian fare. Try the stone bowl dishes and the kale pancakes. You do have to take your shoes off so make sure you wear socks that won't embarrass you.

Two years ago I fell deeply in love with the most amazing woman in the world! We enjoyed one of our first dates at Hangawi. She opened my eyes to the Vegan way and I searched and found Hangawi, the most amazing dining experience! The atmosphere lets you day dream yourself to an exotic location while enjoying some of the... More

Great night out at a vegan restaurant that wasn't a take away type stand. It was beautiful inside and the food was delicious. Sometimes it can be hard to find vegetarian/vegan restaurants that have a great atmosphere. Priced a little higher than some other veg restaurants but the ambiance is worth it. I would love to go back.

I have only been here a handful of times when I have the time and opportunity to be in New York City. As a vegan, it can be a challenge, even in New York to find delicious food. I was staying at a nearby hotel and did a search for a place within walking distance. I am so thankful to... More

I am not a vegetarian; and believe me, if you are reluctant to eat at vegetarian restaurants because you feel that something is missing without meats - you must try this place. The food is so amazing and satisfying that you forget that this is a vegan place. Non-vegetarians will understand what I mean. The combination pancakes, the Mongolian pot,... More

If you are a vegetarian or vegan you should eat at this restaurant if you are in NYC. The one caveat. If you have back problems don't go. The seating is "bench" like with no back support. The menu is HUGE and you will have trouble deciding what to eat. The food is delicious, but the portions are small and... More

We found this restaurant as part of a wander around midtown and via a recommendation. We'd never had korean food before and so this was an experience for both of us and all vegetarian to boot. They had a lunchtime social on offer and I would suggest, if you are trying the food for the first time, it's a great... More

I visited Hangawi 8 years ago, and the vivid recollections of a wonderful meal led me back there this year when I visited NY again. The lighting and ambiance are perfect, the service excellent, and the food is simply sublime. Being relatively unfamiliar with Korean cuisine, we had the fixed price taster menu, which involved plate after plate of exquisitely... More

To someone who grew up on Korean food and still eating out frequently at Korean restaurants like myself, this place represents a rarity on two accounts - vegetarian and upscale. For all the rhetoric from the Korean government about globalization of Korean cuisine, I feel that little has been achieved, but a restaurant like this is a major accomplishment. A... More
