If you love Korean cuisine and/or happen to be a vegetarian Hangawe is a must! Authentic (they require you to take the shoes off), nicely decorated, and good service. Menu contains classics such as Kimchi pancakes but also have dishes that I never tried before. Food is fresh, delicious and flavorful. This is my new favorite Korean in NYC. Sorry... More

As a vegetarian i love it when you enter a place and just order anything off of the menu without having to worry wether or not it contains meat. Had a three coarse meal (which was around 37,50). Nice atmosphere, lovely food (the tofu steak was lovely!) and great service.

I am not a vegetarian, but you do not need to be to appreciate what this restaurant does so well. I went during lunch and ordered the bean paste soup, three cold noodle dish and their best green tea. The atmosphere is subdued in the best sense. The seating is traditional with sunken foot wells and small seat cushions. Customers... More

A very warm welcome into a traditional Korean place serving vegetarian food that was very satisfying! Didn't miss the meats at all! A must try for NY visitors! Definitely going back during my next visit! Must try: -avocado rice stone bowl -Mongolian hot pot-soup -stuffed mushrooms-a lot like Indian pakoda concept but not bad

This is my 2nd visit to Hangawi, once in July 2014 and also a few years ago. I love the ambience, with the wooden tables and seats, with the floor recessed, so it appears that everyone is sitting on the floor, when in fact, you are sitting on a regular seat. Just be prepared to remove your footwear! The waitstaff... More

Vegan Korean restaurant. Boiling hot, tasty soups served in cauldrons. Walking distance to our hotel, La Quinta.

Only in NYC. Worth eating there. The atmosphere is authentic Korean, including taking off your shoes and sitting on woven mats (don't worry, there's place under the table for your legs to hand down). "Vegan” has always struck me as just being “veggier than thou.” That having been said, both the décor and the food were excellent. We had, among... More

We had the prix fixe menu and the experience was very good! The food was delicious, the waiter was very nice and friendly and the overall experience was great. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys good vegetarian food. The only small negative is the price, although the food is excellent I'm not sure it is worth that much money.

OMG, OMG, OMG. My brother-in-law took us out to eat here for lunch a couple of hours before we boarded a plane to fly back to Portland, OR. After the most amazing noodle stone rice bowl we walked my brother-in-law back to his office across the street from the Empire State Building. Then, we turned around and walked the 3... More

My son and I were in NYC to visit his school. We looked for a vegetarian place along our path for the day with good reviews. The sky had just opened up and we were drenched and didn't have a reservation. Luckily they were able to squeeze us in. Great atmosphere and service, and the food was delicious. It was... More
