LOVE IT! Vegetarian Bliss-Out

Came here a couple of years ago with a colleague and was blown away - just managed to go tonight alone and it felt even better. As a twenty-year vegetarian, eating out can be full of compromises, at Hangawi I don't have to give anything a second thought. Had the Avocado stone bowl, sake sampler and... read more

Never thought I'd like a vegan food experience so much. The food and service were completely amazing. So glad I had a pedicure as there are no shoes allowed in the restaurant. Perfect! Try the lychee wine you won't be sorry.

We were heading to the Empire State Building and my husband googled this restaurant. We were all in, as we love Asian food. Big surprise for my husband was that it was all vegetarian. And it was one of the best meals we had in NY!!! Beautifully prepared and presented and the flavor!! Wonderful!! Interior very cozy-- remove shoes and... More

Went for a second time with the intention to get the set menue for 55$. Amazing dishes and flavors and plenty of food. The rice dishes are not my taste as they are bland and without much kick, but the rest was really good. Something which I didn't like that much was that many items were fried, like tofu, mushrooms... We echo reviews of others - intimate atmosphere and tasty, well presented meals. Can highly recommend for a family meal - for our teenagers, Korean vegetarian cuisine is a new experience and they loved the new tastes.

Its a good place for vegetarians to visit and experience Korean culture. The food though you may or may not like, depending on your taste. But overall setup is good. Do try their special tea.

eating here is a unique experience! you take your shoes off and sit at a low table with room for your legs underneath. it's very dark and the menu is exclusively vegetarian and very healthy! I had the avocado rice bowl and the kale pancakes which were really good. my mom really enjoyed her cocktail and all in all it... More

We ate here for my husband's birthday. The setting was nice, though a little dark. We sat at a small table for two next to a wall (luckily with a radiator on it, because it was not that warm on a cold March day), with a small table divider separating us from the next diners. We ordered the tasting menu.... More

Travelling in New York with my vegetarian friend I was amazed at just how good the food can be. Hangawi was no exception. Take your shoes off at the door and relax! Their hot pots are delicious, can't wait to return!

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
