Keens Steakhouse, a classic New York chophouse, was already famous for its steaks and chops at the turn of the century. Founded in 1885, Keens has 90,000 clay pipes that line the ceilings – pipes once smoked by customers after dinner. Today Keens legendary mutton chops and dry aged prime steaks are still without equal in the city.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, cool history and friendly staff. However, the food was just average and by the way, all the steaks are very, very large. The cost is also very high.

We have eaten here 3x in the past 2 months - excellent food, excellent service. The atmosphere is traditional chophouse - intimacy is not what you come here for. But - it is none the less great for all occasions. The pipes on the ceiling should be read about prior to a visit here. The mutton is wonderful, the T-Bone... More

Coming from Chicago we have a good idea of a steakhouse. We were told by a local friend that we had to try the mutton chop, so we did. Before dinner we had the thick cut bacon appetizer. It was good if you're a bacon lover. Very fatty but all around ok. While we waited for dinner we had plenty... More

I ordered the world famous mutton chop, and it didn't disappoint! Cooked perfectly to my liking, it tasted like the best lamb chop you ever ate. But fortunately, it contained the meat of 20 lamb chops! My wife had a steak and it too was enormous and tasty. Really cool atmosphere in a building where nothing has changed in over... More

It's been in business for a long time. Exceptional steak and service. Setting is unique and the history of the place is impressive. Impressive single malt whiskey collection.

If you imaging am American t-bone saw many times into cartoons and such this is the place. Fred Flinstones will approve it. The restaurant is centrally locate and the ambient is beautiful, romantic and chill... Food is wonderfully cooked and you can also taste a good selection of red wines. No doubt and try the T-bone steak even if you'll... More

Very nice restaurant and I suppose popular because we had to wait a few minutes to be seated. All worths as the steaks are grilled in another way thats why all are perfect. Wine list should be examined.

Be prepared to pay a lot but what you get is well worth it; our steaks were amazing. Restaurant is beautiful and atmosphere great. Service was friendly. A restaurant you should go to once whilst in NYC - but save up the pennies.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
