Keens Steakhouse, a classic New York chophouse, was already famous for its steaks and chops at the turn of the century. Founded in 1885, Keens has 90,000 clay pipes that line the ceilings – pipes once smoked by customers after dinner. Today Keens legendary mutton chops and dry aged prime steaks are still without equal in the city.

My mother-in-law recommended it for our wedding anniversary last week and we were not disappointed. Charming knowledgeable staff, food fit for the gods and a stylish interior.

Okay. Look, if you want a great porterhouse or are one of those who like mutton chops (double port house of a sheep) and like to reminisce over the manly eateries of yesteryear then this place is for you. First off, don't be afraid of mutton. You've likely been told by someone who has never had it prepared correctly that... More

This is a traditional steakhouse with lots of history. Recommended in virtually every city guide and have to say it was perfect. There is clearly a very well rehearsed routine with the pre dinner nibbles etc, nice touches but there was no love in it. We both had the fillet and shared different side dishes - the asparagus in particular... More

I went to the Keens with a couple of foodie friends. We've hit most of the top steakhouses in NYC and both friends had already gone to Keens several times. Let's start with the good: great bacon, some of the best around. Great service and ambiance, etc. good Martini. The spinach was not worth eating. It was tasteless. Wolfgangs wins... More

We went here for my birthday after reading the TA reviews. We booked well in advance which is recommended as it was packed! Lovely historical look and feel inside. Tables are a little cramped together so not very romantic as you can hear everything people on the next tables are talking about! We didn't order starters as we wanted to... More

We were recommended this place and given that it was 100m away from the hotel, it was rude not to visit. We hadn't booked a table so were not sure we would get one given it was a Friday night. However they said we should get one in 25 mins and if we were OK with that we could wait... More

Went there recently with a friend and waited in the bar, which was such a relief not to be overawed be TVs ! The whole bar/restaurant is wonderful in genuine olde world manner. Had a few beers and then to dinner. We shared a porterhouse which was really good, spinach which was pretty tasteless and a hash brown which was... More

My friend had been recommended Keens Steakhouse to me and it was perfect as she said. I personally disliked the bacon before but when I've tried the bacon here, I loved it. The food taste really good, so it worth my time waiting on the long queue. The steak was soft and delicious also as the bacon.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
