The food was good but the ambiance was better.

The service was the only downside. It gave us all the feel of its history but without a caring staff.

Unfortunately we did not have a good experience here, My chicken dinner was tasty and tender. My husband's steak was not cooked correctly. When it was returned, the meat was still very chewy and not edible. We were not charged for the meal or my husband's drink.

We almost always stop here for a drink after a show, and last weekend we started with drinks, then added a few appetizers. When we arrived, it was very busy, but we were able to get a great table with comfortable chairs. The Ruben trio and stuffed meatballs were great small plates, although on other occasions we have taken advantage... More

Expensive drinks; tired, over cooked food. you'd be better off getting a hot dog on the street. Obviously resting on laurels of its storied past as a hang out for New Yorker magazine writers & staff.

Very, very relaxing with incredible decor. These are the kinds of places that New York is famous for. The staff was amazing and incredibly helpful. I had the Fish and Chips and at first I was disappointed in the portion size but it was almost too much to finish. Cooked perfectly with no fishy smell and crisp fries as a... More

The last evening of our trip to New York my wife and I decided to eat at the Round Table Room. We had high expectations for an elegant, delicious, and unrushed dinner. The Round Table was chosen for a number of reasons. It was located on our way to the theatre; the history of the hotel and the dining room;... More

First time we ate in the Oak Room was @35 years ago. Very impressive. We have now gone twice in the last two years (be sure to ask for THE ROUND TABLE if you have 6+ diners) and this last time, 2/28/2015 was very disappointing. Except for my Prix Fixe pre-theatre dinner (stuffed chicken breast,,,great), 3 comrades had the "Hanger... More

Went with a couple of friends because of the history of the place, and while the ambiance was top-notch and the drinks themselves were well-crafted, the service was a little slow and our server seemed disinterested. But, if you're a literary buff, you have to go at least once.

I wanted to have lunch at the Algonquin Round Table Room because of its historical significance, even though I had read reviews that said it was interesting, but not to expect too much in the way of good food. What a pleasant surprise! I and my friend had one of the best lunches on our trip to New York. I... More

Love the cozy feel of the Round Table Room -- great spot to enjoy pre-theatre drinks with friends! Despite being crowded, the waiters were right there to bring drinks and nibbles. Unlike some New York bars, you feel welcomed and appreciated at the Algonquin.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
