Perfect Location for Pre-Theater Dinner

My niece and I had delicious gazpacho followed by an arugula salad for her and roasted baby artichokes for me. All were delicious although they were relatively simple recipes. The waiter recommended very good wines. Service was fine, and we didn't have to rush to get to the theater on time.

Went after a show on Broadway. It is convenient to the theaters. Restaurant and food is extremely dated. VERY MUCH LIKE YOU MIGHT MAKE AT HOME, NOT LIKE EATING IN AN UPSCALE new York eatery. Place is borderline depressing,

Orso is one restaurant that we visit on most of our trips to NYC. It is proximate to the theater district and has a menu that features both traditional and innovative Italian cuisine. Their designer thin crust pizzas are out of this world and the roasted artichokes are simply addictive. You can get a first-rate dining experience at very good... More

Came here with some friends a couple of months ago after seeing the broadway play Beautiful. Food was very well prepared especially the homemade bolognese meat sauce on my pasta. My waitress was charming and answered questions calmly even though she was very busy and the place was almost full. The hostess/greeter though seemed more interested in taking sips from... More

Our first choice of a restaurant when we are going to the theater in NYC is Orso. It has really excellent Italian food. The pasta bolognese is a huge favorite with our family. It's one of the best we have every tasted outside of Italy. You can order half portions of the pasta. Orso is very small and you can't... More

The restaurant is a great find near the theater district. We had 5PM reservations (for a 7PM show) and were one of the first to arrive, We had great service and didn't feel rushed at all. The Food is quite good but nothing spectacular. Large menu options ranging from veal liver to sea scallops.

Small restaurant in the theater district serving mostly Italian food including pizza which I noticed many people ordering. Caprese salad was good, liver was excellent, pasta dish okay. Wine selection very limited. Service was good. Not sure I would go back unless it was the closest to the theater. Many choices on this street so would probably try some others.

Very good food, great staff and good location to theater district. I recommend Orso for your next pre-Broadway show dining experience.

Pre theater dinner was served promptly and piping hot. Even though we had an early curtain, we were able to relax and enjoy an excellent, upscale Italian meal, without the pretentious attitude of many comparable NY restaurants. The home made sausage and polenta was very tasty with a variety of wonderful textures. Orecchiette with broccoli rabe, and sausage was like... More

Superb service, atmosphere, and food. The sausage was probably the best I have ever had. Would definitely go back, and highly recommend to others.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
