Service A+ in a cute "house" with lovely courtyard

Can't speak highly enough of the service. Friday night in early December in the theatre district with tickets to a show and NO dinner reservations. OMG - poor planning on my part. We did arrive early - 5:45pm and the maître d' was initially "no way". We offered to sit in the basement where the... read more

If you've seen Hello Dolly - this place could have inspired the "Harmonium Gardens" restaurant scene at the end. If you want REAL old New York, splurge on Barbetta. If it's Summer make sure you sit in the garden. The rooms are lovely old rooms, but how often can you be in Midtown Manhattan and feel like you're in the... More

A return to the past -- and that's not necessarily a good thing. The dining room is huge and old world (i.e., needs painting & re-decorating, small electric lamps on tables with an ancient electric cord running across it & the shade yellowed by age). Service is terrific (with the exception of one waiter with a booming voice that was... More

We had a good time at this restaurant that claims to be the oldest in New York City. It does offer some old world charm though some of the decor and tableware can use an update. The service was surprisingly decent. The food was good. They had some interesting take on a few dishes. I would recommend this place.

We LOVE Barbetta!! We had a great family dinner and as always, we were treated like family by the great wait staff. Last night's pre-fix menu was particularly excellent, the tenderloin melted in my mouth. Thanks Barbetta for making a wonderful memory with my mom and dad! Ciao bella!

The food, service and ambiance at this jewel on restaurant row is excellent. And if you go during restaurant week, it's a bargain as well!

this italian restaurant is situated in the theatre district; it boast a long tradition; the restaurant is set in a classic house, decorated "ventian" style. it has a certain "class" and although it is one open space still quite nice to sit. service is very classic with older servers ( you feel almost like in an italian film). choice of... We had heard such good things about this restaurant we wanted to try it. We seated in the main first floor dining area, where the tables are packed in. I was sitting maybe 2 feet away from the next table. Service was prompt, almost rushed, which in a way was good because we were going to the theatre, but we... More

The setting is lovely, we were seated immediately and we did, indeed, get out in plenty of time to get up the street for our show. The upstairs front room where we were seated really is pretty and the tables are spaced far enough apart that you don't become an unwilling participant in someone else's meal. That was the good... Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
