located in a charming old brownstone mansion, there are no cutting edge dishes coming out of this kitchen. The pre-theater dinner consists of classic Italian choices with a Piedmont emphasis. Salads, pasta, swordfish and chicken were all flavorful. The Parmesan biscuits are addictive, bread and water were constantly replenished and the free chocolate/orange mousse was outstanding. Service is a little... More

This restaurant is like your elderly uncle-grumpy, shabby, but not without some cooking skills. My main grudge-we specified on the reservations that it was our 25th wedding anniversary (and I mentioned it again to mai•tre d' when we arrived)-still got no acknowledgment. Out of 12000 restaurants in NYC we choose Barbetta to celebrate our special milestone, did not even get... More

This 100+ year old restaurant was costly but atmosphere has a cost. Food was very good, service was less than 100% and the tables were a tad small for 2 men. I would definitely return for a SPECIAL night.

We arrived at Barbetta at 19.40 hrs on a Wednesday, just when the theatre goers were leaving. This left the restaurant with a relatively small number of people. We sat outside in the courtyard/garden and had superb service. The food was very good, if a little on the expensive side. The garden was quiet and a delightful place to sit... More

This was a truly wonderful birthday experience! We were greeted warmly and seated in a beautiful outdoor courtyard...hard to come by in the heart of Manhattan!Quiet table like I requested.Wonderful, attentive service...very warm.Had the fixed pre-theater menu.Delicious and no one rushed us...we took all the time we wanted. They came out with a crème brulee and a candle on a plate decorated with... Barbetta is one of those hidden places in NYC that is not super well known with the tourists. Its a more upscale restaurant with a great menu. The restaurant is one of the oldest in the city and offers great food. The staff has always been great and very attentive. If your looking for a unique experience be sure to... More

Nice Northern Italian Cuisine. Prior to seeing a show, my wife and I happened upon this restaurant. We decided to give it a try. From the moment we entered we felt like family. They have a special menu for theater goers so you are not late for your show. My wife had Rollatine for appetizer which was superb, Bue al... More

We were very disappointed at this place, which turned out to be our first truly bad food experience during our NYC stay. The decor was charming, and our first impression quite okay. On the plus side, the wine was excellent. Everything else was really bad. Our waiter was grumpy, and the food was at best blend. And it was not... More

My fiance and I recently had a pre-theater dinner in this century old Italian restaurant. We sat outside in the courtyard. The service was impeccable, from the maitre d, to our server to the bread person. By the way, the bread was tremendous. We enjoyed the reasonably priced prix fixe meal and were out in plenty of time to make... More

I decided to visit Barbetta during Restaurant Week and I should have gone elsewhere. I heard that they had a beautiful garden, overrated. It was concrete backyard with greenery. The decorum is old style italian, big and grand but the welcome we received was less than stellar. We waited over 7 minutes before our server came over. The menu was... More
