The first odd experience was upon entering. We were seated fine but the initial interaction by the waiter was unwelcoming and above all incoherent. Wait staff attentive and you get out in time for the theater and Beware....we are New Yorkers. We live here and have been to this restaurant several times. The food was smothered in sauce that disguised whatever we were eating from trout to chicken to veal.disappointed and realize that this once gem of a place has gone down hill. There... More

We went to La Rivista one night recently before a show. From the service to the food and wine, it was all good, but not great.

We went to La Rivista for a pre-matinee lunch. The prix fixe menu was excellent...nice choices and delicious food. Our waiter was friendly, attentive and considerate of our theater schedule. It was a first visit for all three of us and we all said we'd go back.

We booked this restaurant for an after theatre dinner, and were incredibly disappointed. The food was delicious, however the staff were very sullen and sulky. At one point they were openly arguing and shouting at each other even using the "f" word in front of us and other patron. We couldn't wait to leave and when we asked for the... More

One of many Restaurant Row offerings, very convenient location to Broadway theaters. We were greeted by a very pleasant young lady at the door who turned us over to the Maitre D. His unfriendly demeanor seemed to indicate he had just returned from having a root canal operation, or perhaps he doesn't like his job. The menu offering and food... More

We were warmly welcomed and the Maître D was most helpful aiding us choose a suitable red wine. We enjoyed a lovely leisurely dinner entertained by a pianist and some elderly ladies singing. It was a unique and very pleasant evening transporting us through music away from 21st century razzle dazzle and reminding us of a former genteel age. We... More

I loved this little neighborhood find. Near the theatre district it caters to before and after attendees. The food is superb Italian with a definite New York flair. The Matre d' controls the experience with a flow that is smooth and flawless. The food is great and the piano player who also sings creates the perfect ambiance for a true... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
