Good sushi!!

Were looking for a very quick bite before our 7p.m. show and Kodama Sushi fit the bill perfectly. We walked in, it's very non-assuming, and were told to go to the back to be seated and there we found a bustling restaurant! We were seated at the bar. Delicious sushi in the midst of Hells Kitchen. Very innovative with traditional favorites also. Service is as great and happy hour is busy. Small, maybe 12 at bar and 12 other tables. Worth the wait. Very neighborhoody feel to the place. Easy to find.

Kodama is a Theatre District Japanese mainstay, just steps away from Times Square. Attractive, varied menu and very attentive, friendly service. As to be expected in this area, prices reflect location. Sushi places a few blocks west or north give similar experience at lower cost. Still--very good lunch or pre-theatre option. Two observations: the special lunch menu is only available... More

Great find. The sushi was great, the service was good and the space not too crowded. We ordered soups, edamame, sushi, bento box and the salmon salad and all were good. The favorite roll was made with black rice. The place is worth a stop.

Stopped in for a small meal with 7 others. I ordered a sashimi appetizer and some Miso soup. The soup was very good, but the sashimi was not very flavorful. Tried a couple of other things (cooked things) that others ordered and they seemed better. Very good service and reasonable prices.

The servers and sushi chefs are very friendly and talkative making eating at their sushi bar a very comfortable experience. I did eat very simple (Rainbow Roll) but the fish tasted very fresh. The prices are very reasonable! And the menu has a pretty good selection of different Japanese foods if you not in the mood for sushi.

Went last night for the first time,I will be back. Actually I'm eating my left overs as I type.We started with sushi,it was fresh and delicious. I had teriyaki chicken and tempura. The tempura were 2 large shrimps, sweet potato, squash, and zucchini. Part of the teriyaki included carrots, celery, and peppers, broccoli was also plated.. All was placed on white rice. We also had wine... More

Kodama has been a standby in the theater area for many years. They have take out and sit down dining. The prices are reaonsable - downright cheap for Manhattan - and the quality reliably good with a nice variety of Japanese dishes beyond sushi. The staff is most accommodating and friendly. If you're looking for looking for a place pre... More

By the way, if you are in NYC and do NOT need to be seen or spend big bucks, this hidden off broadway spot is a true gem. We did a theatre fix and had an amazing inexpensive dinner of sushi and some unusual rolls too. But the most amazing thing was the price. We will do it more often... More

Scouted for a good sushi place close to our hotel, near TImes Square and found this place. Don't let yourself be fooled by the "fast-food-joint-style" exterior and the somewhat out-dated interior - the food is delicious! We had sushi & sashimi, both very good. Sushi was exceptionally nice with their trade-mark black rice instead of the regular white rice. Also... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
