Average food for Exorbitant Prices

My wife and i went here last weekend while visiting NYC. I had been to Esca a year ago with a friend. The food was OK at best - over salted.. I ordered a pasta with monkfish. If you are going to the Theatre, it's probably a decent place to go, but i wouldn't go out of my way to... read more

I've eaten at Esca maybe 20 times. It's excellent. My wife and I like it so much we come here every year for her birthday. Please, please please don't listen to those who say it's overly salty (?!?) or "average" or only worth visiting if you're going to a show. You'd be depriving yourself of a great meal. The food... I have been to Otto and wanted to try another Batali restaurant, so I chose this one. The service and the food were both outstanding. Our server helped us pick from the menu and it was very good. Loved it and highly recommend it to anyone.

Been looking forward to trying this restaurant for some time. The staff are super friendly -- from the time you walk in to the minute you walk out. I particularly liked how attentive our waiter was and how he explained how the dishes were cooked. I absolutely loved my meal. I for one liked the briny taste in many of... More

Selected by our friends for pre-theater dinner. Did not disappoint. Good service from wait staff, support staff and sommelier. Mostly Italian wines but some French in the back of the book. Long list of crudo offerings, hot appetizers, whole fish, filet fish, pastas. Seafood stew was excellent (had to ask for bread to enjoy with the tasty broth-why not just... More

Terrific lunch with family at this Bastianich - Batali fish specialty spot. Service was great and unhurried. Bar was small but we only waited for a brief time until the party was there. A great suggestions for our starters to be shared. Wine selection was very extensive. Terrific -can't wait to go back.

Back after a few years.... Same wonderfulness I remembered....oh the crudo..... Italian take on sashimi but better as each raw seafood is paired with an olive oil and herb. My god, does it get better than this ever??? Great bartender and the rest of the menu was filled with delights. The cocktails and wine paired beautifully....

We were concerned that a restaurant in this neighborhood would be very "chain like"! We were very please with the freshness and quality of the food especially the Crudo!

I visited there for lunch as I just moved to the neighborhood. Nice atmosphere, staffs are friendly with comfortable distance. I ordered crude tastings and pasta of sea urchin and crab meat. Fish of the crude was pretty fresh but noting special its average, and pasta was disappointed. Pasta, was lack in flavor, with micro piece of sea urchin and... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
