I wish ther was a button between 3 and 4; Above avg, but not quite very good.

My bf and I have been deep into the tasting menu game lately, so it was a no brainer when it came to this menu. However, unlike most tasting menus where you start off impressed, but not blown way, but with each subsequent dish (and glass of wine) you are more and more overwhelmed and then you... read more

High end place with nice small garden seating area outside. Food was good, Wife got spaghetti with Lobster very good, but I blew it and got Crispy sea food dish, The green Aole sauce was pretty tasteless. This place actually has an Italian raw seafood selection, much like sushi. I didn''t have the nerve to try it. They had many... More

We had just returned from a wonderful trip to Sicily and wanted to continue the delicious flavors of the southern Italian region. We were completely disappointed. The service was terrible; the Zuppa Di Pesce tasteless. We will not return. Not sure how they get the great ratings.

I have reviewed this restaurant before but had another fantastic visit. We always try to make it to Esca when in New York. The service is impecable, the crudo choices plentiful and tasty and the fish fantastic

Esca has always been a favorite because it is consistently delicious. We were there this time for the early Sunday evening opening. The waitstaff was welcoming and conscious of our theatre timing . I had the crudo tasting, so interesting and refreshing, and a salad of the day: various types of peas with mint and Parmesan cheese; my husband the... More

The concierge of the Intercontinental Hotel, Times Square, recommended this restaurant to us. We did not have a reservation and we arrived right at the busiest time of day. Without turning a hair they made room for us at their serving station/table - a long wooden table that would have been right at home in an Italian farmhouse kitchen. We... More

On the train up to NYC, I read The Washington Post' food critic's chat recommendation for Esca as THE place he goes in NYC for pre-theatre dinner, especially the raw bar. We decided to try it for a later evening meal. Maybe that was the rub? We didn't have a reservation; they nicely accommodated our request for a table outside... More

Although Esca is a bustling restaurant, we enjoyed a lovely pre Broadway birthday dinner at a quiet table near the wine storage. Service was excellent. Our server explained the complicated menu very well and, as a result, all 4 of us ordered different apps: oysters, variety of crude, and variety of sardines and anchovies. We ordered one order of their... More

The baby octopus dish was ver nice. Tender and flavorful. I also ordered the linguini with clams. The clams were fresh and the linguini was done just right. The sauce was quite salty even though the waiter had warned us. If they knew that was an issue then I don't know why they didn't correct it. The service was extremely... More

We had a large group of 24 use this new Mario Batali restaurant for dinner after a company business. We were seated at four tables- the place is too small to accommodate such a group in one large, or even two tables. What was really nice was the calming environment once we stepped off the busy sidewalk, into an ambiance... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
