Pretty good but overpriced

My family and I came here because my father-in-law is a big fan of the TV show that Dave Pasternack has about fishing in Long Island. When we got to the restaurant, we were seated immediately and told our waiter why we came. As we were looking at the menu, out walked Dave Pasternack. He came to our... read more

They really have to get over themselves! This place has a few reasonably good dishes but that does not save it from its snooty attitude. It seems to prey on the theatre crowd that doesn't know better. Because I live nearby and like Sardinian food I have been here almost a dozen times in a year and the waiter will... More

This was an after theatre choice. We were right on time for our reservation and was taken to the table and presented with our menus. We ordered cocktails which arrived promptly. The restaurant was very busy. We were presented with the specials by the waiter. So while we enjoyed our cocktails we made our choices. When the waiter came to... More

Walking into the restaurant, myself and my boyfriend were greeted immediately with a warming welcome. Ambiance of the restaurant is peaceful, while the walls are bare of any paintings or photographs…a usual characteristic of fine cuisine dining. The service we received from Pierre was outstanding and precise, always making sure to answer any questions we may have had. He also... More

OMG - what a fabulous dinner at Esca! We didn't have a reservation on Saturday night but hoped to we could get a table. We were seated on the outdoor terrace right away - very cozy with a bubbling fountain and greenery. Our waiter Ararat could not have been nicer and the food was amazing! Started with very fresh oysters,... More

The atmosphere inside Esca was nice (it was way too hot on the day I went to sit in their pretty terrace area), though the tables were tightly packed. The menu was expansive and a lot of the dished sounded great, but of the dishes my father and I ordered, it was really hit-or-miss. I had a pasta dish that... More

My daughter and I dined at Esca on Aug 2.. The food was superb and the service was very professional. The waiter actually enhanced our meal, with suggestions and comments. Look forward to returning.

Recently dined here with colleagues for a business function in the private dining area. Service was superb. Food was very good, but did not live up to the hype- over salted and not the fine dining I was expecting. Do not plan to return- I get better seafood at home.

Great service. Nice outdoor seating area if you don't mind the noise from 9th Ave. Restaurant week lunch special for $25 - three courses. No menu online as it changes daily. Started with zuppa di pesce - a very flavorful (but way TOO salty) broth was a lot of fish chunks and a very tomatoey base. Had it not been... More

My friend & I had lunch at Esca in Hells Kitchen as part of NY Restaurant Week! The Mario Batali-designed menu was seriously delicious & everything we ate was truly wonderful! Perfect Italian seafood that you would expect to eat at a trattoria on the Italian coast overlooking the Mediterranean - however you are smack bang in the middle of... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
