Disappointed relative to price

Too common in the theater district: food so so; service very good; price high. The best part of the meal was the Verdura Mista (a salad of winter vegetables). The second best part of the meal was the italian wine selected for us by the wine steward. Third was the dessert (not on the web menu... read more

Was there for a late-ish working dinner, probably not their intended clientele. Nevertheless, it was a bit disappointing. The food was pretty good, but not at the level to justify the tab. If you are looking for over-described small portions served by intrusive waiters and to impress out-of-towners, this is the place.

We went with my family for lunch. The food was good but the service was poor. The service was uneven and they forgot a desert we ordered and brought the wrong tea. The staff didn't even apologize or really care. I even thought they forgot about us ,,,it was expensive and I wouldn't go back too soon!!

I always enjoy going to restaurants that chefs I see on TV own. What a wonderful experience. The waiter was so cognisant of what time we needed to leave to get to the show. This was a very, well managed Italian restaurant. The service was the best I have had in years. We had the Gulf shrimp pasta ...delicious and the gnocchi,... More

Our concierge reserved Esca for us prior to a Broadway show and he will get a tip! The place is small and friendly. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and on top of his game. The crudo was excellent, especially the local squid. We also had the calamari from the altro menu. We stopped after the Neapolitan Fusilli Bolognese (made with... More

My wife and I had dinner last Tuesday night at Esca prior to going to see George Clinton at BB Kings. The food, waitstaff and decor coudn't be beat. My wife and I split a stuffed calamari appetizer, and I had a half dozen oysters (3 Connecticut Bluepoints/3 wild Montauk). For our mains, my wife ordered the grilled octopus and... More

I made reservations at Esca for my 50th birthday before the theater. We could not understand the waiter. He was very pushy as far as pretty much telling us we had to order an appetizer. We really did not want to but did anyway. My spaghetti with Lobster was really good. My sister got the seafood stew which the waiter... More

So glad we put this on our list of places to eat. A great restaurant with great service. Made reservations well in advance and glad we did as the restaurant was quite busy on a Monday night. There were 4 of us out for dinner and all 4 meals were delicious. The Bastianich wine was good (albeit overpriced). The only... More

The service, wine list and food were terrific. Must like seafood to enjoy this establishment...if you do, add it to your list.

This is a good restaurant. The food is good to very good but the service is very good by New York standards. The best lobster spaghetti I've ever had was at Joe Beef in Montreal. Esca's lobster spaghetti is good but nowhere near as good as Joe Beef. The "crudo" raw fish apps are delicious. Well prepared, perfectly seasoned and... More

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
