we enjoyed another wonderful pre theater meal at Esca. We always go back to Esca when we are in New York for the great service and delicious food. They took into consideration that we needed to get to the theaterso the service was prompt but not overly rushed. The crudo was fantastic. Would recommend this restaurant if you are in New... More

During our visit to NYC, Esca was on my list of restaurants to visit. We made a reservation on the same date, we arrived and were prompted to a table, that for our surprise, was shared. The place was crowded and too noisy, so it was difficult to talk, moreover in between four other people. The table was a wood... More

I suppose that as other Batali restaurants also ESCA (the Italian translation of bait) wanted to offer the italian cuisine in NYC. Unfortunately the only one who swallows the bait is the unhappy customer who comes here dreaming about a great dinner. This is not the case. In Italy there are thousands of restaurants that cost half of Esca and... More

We had a wonderful meal here. From the 6 piece raw fish tasting menu to the bronzini fish this place did not disappoint!! The service was good but not great. We had an enjoyable dinner.

This restaurant was recommended due to the fact you can make a 5:30 PM reservation and they will make sure you finish in time for a 8:00 PM show. We were told about the whole fish that are prepared table side. Unfortunately, we ordered more complex dishes and pasta that seemed to fall flat. They were not bad, just uninspired... More

This the second time I visited ESCA. We were eight and most of us truly enjoyed our meals the waiter notwithstanding. Our appetizers were delicious, looking forward to the entrees. The butterfish, ink spaghetti with squid, spaghetti with sea urchin, flounder, fish stew were excellent, well prepared not overdone. The black bass, skate were tasteless and dry. Fortunately, the dessert... More

We are native New Yorkers and have eaten from the local pizza shop up to Michelin Star restaurants and honestly have never seen such a pretentious menu as this. I ordered pasta vongole. I was told by the waiter it was "briney" and that was fine. It was not briney but full of sand! When I said I could not... More

Esca is a very pretty restaurant but that is the only good thing from our experience last night. Unprompted, the waiter spent what felt like 20 mins explaining the menu. When we asked if we could get the salad dressing on the side he said the chef won't because it ruins the integrity if the dish. It's salad for crying... More

My husband and I arrived early thinking we could wait at the bar until our table was ready. There was no room but the host escorted us to a cute wine bar a few steps from the restaurant and said he would come and get us when our table was ready. It was over 15 minutes past our reservation time... More
