Description: In the heart of Little Brazil street is the famous Ipanema Restaurant,...
In the heart of Little Brazil street is the famous Ipanema Restaurant, considered to be the best Brazilian restaurant in all of New York City. Ipanema offers a relaxed and contemporary atmosphere complemented by the authentic cuisine our chef has perfected over the past 30 years. While the name Ipanema refers to the famous beach in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil our menu is firmly rooted in the culinary crossover between both Brazil and Portugal. Ipanema's menu combines the timeless history of Portuguese recipes with the zest and vibrancy of Brazilian cuisine, resulting in a one-of-a-kind dining experience. At Ipanema you can immerse yourself in a true Brazilian-Portuguese experience with famous dishes including: Feijoada, Vatapá, Pão de Queijo, Bacalhau Assado, Bitoque Mariscada, and more.

Several people in our group had steaks and pronounced them tasty, if a bit tough. Sauteed shrimp were also good, as were the black beans and the fried bananas. Bacalhau was a bit too salty. The chocolate and coconut pudding desserts were quite dense, but tasted good. Portions of everything were large, and prices were quite reasonable, particularly for midtown... More

I had Dinner with a business partner at the Ipanema. We didn't have a reservation, and the place was crowded, so we were seated at the bar where we had a drink and some starters while waiting for a table to become available. Beware of the hot chili sauce, which can be challenging for non-Brazilian taste buds! It was all... More

Great find, small Brazilian restaurant. We stared with drinks - Caipirinha, which is Brazil's National Drink, which is rum with either lime, passion fruit or coconut cream over ice. Delicious. I had the black bean stew, which was excellent but enough to for two. It's served with rice and even more black beans. Co-worker had steak topped with a fried... More

Dear kckiss, What a great review! So glad you found us and had some of our most traditional dishes. The black bean stew is a Brazilian staple and the egg topped steak a Portuguese favorite. The only thing missing was trying one of our tasty, creamy desserts. May I suggest the flan or house special, both of which are too... More

Very nice menu and dinner. We didn't go for any of the big entrees, but the soups and appetizers were excellent. Service was very attentive and lots more on the menu I would try.

Somehow, I missed doing this review in a timely manner but better late than never. Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
