Best takoyaki I've had outside of Japan. (can be a bit of a long wait though)

I love Kansai street food but this place tends to be inconsistent and really slow sometimes (30 minutes for one okonomiyaki and 6 takoyaki?!?!?) at times they look annoyed when you order food. Its a toss-up if its worth the wait or not.

It's pretty damn good near the top in terms of takoyaki in the city. Dang good value when you purchase combos and the draw here is it's street food sold in a small hole in the wall. I don't want to go into a full service restaurant, pay for the food and tip just for TAKOYAKI! Recommended for everyone.

Ssssh don't tell anyone about this place. Too late. Perfect Japanese hole-in-the-wall beer food that you eat on the run (or hanging around outside the place). Go to Decibel down the road after for some sake to wash it all down with.

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
