Best cheesecake in New York

This place is almost always packed to the point where there is very little standing room to even walk in. However, it is worth the wait. The New York and Italian cheesecakes blew any other cheesecake I've ever tried out of the water.

A friend recommended Veniero's on a.recent trip to New York. Coming from a city with excellent Italian bakeries, I was skeptical. I'm now a big fan. Four of us had pastries or cheesecake one evening, with coffee and Amaretto liqueur. The desserts were wonderful and the coffees rich and delicious. We sat and talked for a long time, and the... The restaurant itself is quite large. When you walk in, all you see is cakes and cookies and pastries. The cappuccino is very, very good. Cannolis are fresh and the shell is crisp. Napolians light and creamy. It boasts that it has been family owned and run since 1894. I believe it. They must have passed down the right baking... More

My husband spotted this place and we decided to give it a try. Cheescake is AMAZING!! I loved that it was gluten free (no crust on it) you can also get a sugar free version. Environment was wonderful seating was nice, not so noisy that you couldn't hear each other talk. I would highly reccommend this spot!!

My friends and I were in Brooklyn and some one decided they wanted a cannoli! I said I had heard of this place that was supposed to be one of the oldest and best Italian dessert places in the city. So we looked it up and headed to the East Village...best decision ever!! The trip was well worth it! And... More

Simply my favorite dessert place of all time! Everything is absolutely delicious and I love the old-world decor. My favorites are the miniatures (esp. the fruit tarts) and the biscotti. I brought the pignoli (pine) nuts into my office once, and once a week I'm asked when I'm bringing them back in. All desserts are made on-site, everyday so its... More

I was born and raised 5 minutes from Venieros, and my parents still live in my childhood apartment, so I have understandably been a loyal lifelong customer (30+ years). I have also had the opportunity to try pastries from all over Europe, and let me tell you that you will not find anything better than Veniero's. I know that's a... More

Went with family for a birthday party, and the cake was to die for. OMG, it was the best cake I've ever had. They also sell bisque tortoni, a simply wonderful ice cream-like delight. It has a soft almond and nutmeg flavor and is served in small paper cups for the outrageous price of $3.75...but worth every cent. These two... More

This is the best Italian Pasticceria in NYC. I go there every year and get frozen Sfogliatelle's for my parents and bring them home to them every XMas. My dad just passed away this year, but he used to make them and I would bring them frozen so he could smell them during baking. This year I continuned the traditon... More

You can make a complete meal out of all the pastries :-) It's a staple for late night, post-dinner desserts in the East Village. Save room after dinner and walk here so you can feel comfortable wolfing down the sweets.

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
