Italian but not what it seems

a lovely dinner but oh so expensive, no matter how good the food. at some point they cannot keep this price without a step change in the experience which is tired.

I used to go here more frequent years ago but actually got a bit upset one time I was overcharged for a Special White Truffle pasta learning that they did not offer homemade fresh pasta I was annoyed with my bill. But truth is Nello has a great location in Madison Av and when shopping around this area is right... More

"We're sorry you were shocked by the prices -- we understand why you chose to stay, but please know, none of our staff would have felt affronted if you chose to leave.",- the owner's response to a honest review down below. Am I the only one shocked with the way the Nelo's owner is responding? This is insulting and not... More

We really didn't mean that to be misconstrued! We honestly meant that we wanted valgal13 to feel comfortable, so we would have completely understood if she'd decided to leave. It can be very uncomfortable to sit down and not realize everything was more expensive than anticipated, so we wanted to express that had the customer decided to leave then, no... More

too expensive for very average food. Pastas are ridiculously priced. Menu selection is extensive but staff is so arrogant that it detracts from any ambiance.

Franco, it's disheartening to read about your disappointment. We take great pride in our fresh ingredients and our innovative dishes, so it's a shame to read you feel our food is overpriced. The customer experience is one of our top concerns, so we're deeply sorry if you received a different impression. We're always looking for ways to improve, so we... More

Its not the prices --which are the same as the GDP of a small country--its the arrogant attitude and bill padding that goes on. i won't even discuss the food because most of the guests are too large or dull to notice one way or the other. The only person who will steer you towards this place, will be the... More

Michael, truth be told, it's disheartening to read about your disappointment with our prices. We use the freshest and finest ingredients, so our dishes are priced accordingly. That said, we apologize if this deterred you, as that's never our intention. Thank you for your feedback, as we're always looking for ways to improve. All the best, Nello More

My daughter and I were looking for a nice spot to have a quick lunch before our flight home from NYC and this looked perfect.. The manager was very nice and found us a great table outside. We're so glad you loved the food! But, if we didn't prove to you that we're worth every cent, then we dropped the ball. The volume of "overpriced" reviews would seem like a turnoff to many, but it doesn't leave the restaurant empty. For a restaurant to be in the same place in NYC for I think about 25 years, they must be doing something right. The food was good but totally overpriced. I wouldn't recommend it for that reason. It's not only expensive but the portions are smaller than in Italy. Bottle of Aqua Panna $15. Espresso $8. Desserts $25. Then there is tax and service. Just be fore warned.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
