Excellent Vegan Restaurant

This is the best vegan restaurant we've experienced. We liked it so much, we went back a second night. All our diners had excellent meals, and our service was very attentive and friendly.

Candle 79 was my first vegan restaurant and the food was absolutely amazing. After this meal I eat 100% vegan if the Chef would just go home with me and cook everyday. We had the cornmeal poppers, the moroccan spiced chick pea cake and my favorite Chipolte-Grilled Tempe. Two days later we were still talking about the food. I may have... More

After visiting the Met we came across Candle 79. Even though we didn't have a booking they welcomed us in. Both the food and the service were excellent.

Excellent and very affordable vegan food that could turn a meat-eater like me into a vegetarian. This good choice for vegans, vegetarians and those who like to eat lightly. The restaurant is quite small but beautifully decorated. The place seemed quite popular We had a mixed snack plate for starters. Both were very nice. They have a good selection of... More

My husband, brother, and I ate a very nice lunch at this place. We sat upstairs where it was not noisy and were served by a competent waiter. We ordered the veg.sushi appetizer, steamed dumplings, and black bean soup. Soup not a stand-out. Sushi was nothing too special either, except for the yummy sauce, but the dumplings were excellent, served... More

Vegan or not...this place is for you. We had the wild mushroom crepe - was great. The pomegranate skewers were really good. All in all - great place. Will definitely go again.

Whether you're Vegetarian or not (I'm not) this is certainly a gem of a restaurant. Even the wines offered are chosen based on their winery's impact on the environment. We thought that was really cool! The staff are friendly and the food was wonderful. We shared a Mezze platter and I had a the Seitan burger while my wife had... More

As a vegan, I usually feel somewhat left out of the mainstream in most restaurants, so going to an all-vegan restaurant is a treat. The variety of dishes, beautiful presentations, and wonderful service all make this a stand-out spot. Appetizers: steamed dumplings served with lightly steamed bok choi in a ginger sauce -- the best of the two appetizers; nori... More

Ok, so it's not really fair to call him a carnivore, but one person in our party was definitely a meat lover. And he loved every bit, and couldn't believe how full he felt. The rest of us were vegetarians, so couldn't wait to dig into the scrumptious food. We were drooling just watching the tables around us being served... More

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
