Amazing vegan restaurant!

I am very much a carnivore. However, the vegan food at Candle 79 is some of the best NYC food of any type that I have had. The menu is broad and interesting. Presentation was excellent and the taste amazing!

Billed as vegetarian non veggies but probably puts people off the idea. A limited not very inspiring menu that tries to offer up recognizable non-veggie dishes in vegetarian form. But unlike good veggie/vegan restaurants it serves up heavy, stodgy food with not much taste. Nor was it particularly healthy with plenty of cream, sugar, starch and sauces. Terrible cannoli. Service... More

My husband and I have gone a few times now since it's in our neighborhood. It has a sophisticated menu of simple ingredients. For a vegan/vegetarian Candle 79 makes it easy to indulge in delicious healthy dishes. It's not just veggies and salad! We took a foodie and meat-lover to Candle79 and he was pleasantly surprised that he enjoyed every... More

A lovely vegan restaurant in the upper east side, a few blocks from the Metropolitan museum of art. I took my husband here for his birthday. The food was mouth watering. Everything was vegan, organic or biodynamic. there were 2 floors. it was cozy. If you make a reservation way ahead of time you should ask for window seat. don't... More

I so rarely go to the Upper East Side, I was afraid I was going to have to miss this jewel. But I found myself at the Met around lunchtime, and hoofed it over to 79th & Lexington. This is THE best vegan restaurant I've eaten at. I only wished I lived in NYC and could go more often. I... More

Each time I come to NY I make sure to go to Candle 79, the food is very good, well made with good, fresh and seasonal ingredients. This review is really based on many visits. In my opinion vegitarian/vegan restaurants often compremise the flavor or are more of a fastfood concept, Candle is just an excellent restaurant and vegan.

I'm a carnivore, but was joined in NYC by my vegetarian sister... I hit google, and entered "best vegetarian restaurant NYC." Candle 79 was one of the places that pulled up, and after reading a few Yelp reviews, I decided this was the place for us, and made our reservation. Well, Yelp (and Google) led me in the right direction.... More

Candle 79 has been our favorite restaurant for years, from the moment we took our first bite. You could take anyone here- veg, vegan, carnivore- and they would leave here elated, satiated, and impressed. There isn't one thing on the menu that I've tried and haven't loved, but if I had to pick one thing I'd say to order the... More

Had read some great reviews on here and had to visit. Extremely friendly service and a great menu. Thoroughly enjoyed the zucchini flowers, chocolate brownie sundae and cannolis. In a very nice spot, lovely range of wines to choose from. A must if you're a vegetarian or vegan.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
