Really tasty, even for non-vegans

We came with a couple of friends and we had a really great time. Only one of the party was a vegan but our companions eat at this restaurant anyway because the food is good (and perceived as healthier but I don't know if that's necessarily true). There is lots of choice on the menu and the... read more

Just returned from dinner there tonight. Made reservations 2 weeks prior for Friday night 6 pm dinner for 2. Yes, really. Guess they are really popular. I was immediately seated at the table even though my friend did not arrive. I was seated on second floor in the booth large enough for 4. I asked for a smaller table closer... More

My daughter and I ate here Thanksgiving week. She is vegan, I am not. For both of us it was a truly incredible dining experience. Highly recommend, both quality of food and service are terrific.

I enjoyed my second meal at Candle 79, this time ordering an entree not just an appetizer- there is a pick Four option and it didn't disappoint- "polenta fries" and sauteed oyster mushies, roasted brussel sprouts and grilled tofu- delicious homemade ketchup for the "fries" with a slight kick, wonderful miso lemongrass for the tofu, and a chive condiment that... This is not the first time I have been at Candle 79. However, it will be the last. I booked a table for 5:30 because I wanted time to enjoy multiple desserts and a nice meal. Unfortunately, I was soon called two days before the reservation reminding me that I had to be done by 7:00 because then they would... More

We had a lovely family dinner here. Our first waiter was most helpful and polite. The food was really interesting and good. We had various food allergies among our group so this was a good choice. Our second waiter was not so good - we would have ordered dessert if he hadn't left us waiting for about 20 minutes after... More

I chose this place as my girlfriend is vegetarian and always struggles at restaurant with barely any choice. She loved it as was spoilt for once! Could easily cater for a meat eater with some of the dishes being so delicious you don't miss it at all. Thoroughly recommend the seitan skewers or burger as they are just like meat... More

Average food (the menu doesnt offer a lot of diversity), average service, nothing fancy. There are better spots in the neighbourhood.

I am a meat lover so I really avoid vegetarian places like a plague. I have to say this place changed my perspective on vegetarian restaurants. My friends and I shared several appetizers and they were all delicious. We had the mezze platter which was a dish of hummus, babaganoush, roasted eggplant, nuts and olives; the live jicama avocado tartare... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
