My wife and I had a great dinner here. We have only been to a few restaurants where we have a difficult time choosing what we should have. Usually the choice is made for us. Our sever was great. She asked us if where we were from. When we told her she said that made sense. We were too nice... read more

Went based on reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was great, some great combinations of taste, and I am not Vegan or even vegetarian. Service great too...not what I had read.

I was ecstatic to eat at Candle 79, but in my opinion it fell short. I wish I had ordered all appetizers, since they were delicious, and skipped my salad/entree. Service was incredible, and the atmosphere was fantastic, but the food was bland, and was very expensive. I had high hopes for the best vegan restaurant in NYC, but was... More

This upscale organic vegan restaurant is innovative and inspirational if you’re devoted to avoiding meat and dairy. For the casually interested and flexitarian, it reeks of try-hard sophistication and feels like it lacks real soul in its ingredients. Service was snooty and hot sauce took three attempts and a full ten minutes to arrive on our table. Prices are high,... More

Awesome nachos, dinners, and homemade desserts- cannolis and ice cream! Will definitely go back! Cleanest kitchen I've ever seen. Wish it was closer to the theater district so cab or train not needed. Need reservations, since small. Not pricey, if you don't drink, which hiked up our bill! 😰

Yes the food at Candle 79 is delicious vegan fare! So many choices, hard to decide especially when you don't live in NYC so visits here are infrequent. The waiter, although not too friendly was able to offer suggestions and guide us in our choices. We ordered the pomegranate BBQ seiten skewers and the grilled kale salad to start. Entrees... More

I wasn't sure what to expect when I came here. I am recently stopped eating meat and dairy, which can be challenging when eating out, so I was excited to find a place where everything was an option. After dining here, I am left wondering why they have not opened more of these restaurants. I honestly think if people realized... More

We read so much good reviews on this restaurant so I guess we expected it to be amazing but it wasn't.. It was good, nice food - nothing special.. Also It's kinda pricy. I'm vegan so I'm really excited to go to every vegan restaurant there is but I'm not gonna come back to this one. The waiter wasn't so... More

We had a reservation for eight people, when we showed up- the hostess had given our table away to a table of FIVE. We had to wait for twenty minutes for another table to open up. Once we were seated our water more than made up for our long wait. He was a pleasure. Our food was delicious from the... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
