Not to be missed- Vegan treasure

A very special 38th anniversary dinner with my husband at the upscale restaurant with a vast menu selection of both raw and cooked vegan entrees.

So first off, I'm greek. Meat is my life and I eat it every day. My friend is vegan, and when he took myself and another friend here, we were more than skeptical. To our delight, the cute and cozy decor matched it's polite and knowledgeable staff and their insane food. We were brought of cucumber nibbles before we ordered,... More

Had big hopes for this place after all we have heard about it. The setting is tired and needs a refresh. Had a sense that our waiter was focused on pushing certain dishes as dictated by management. The salad we ordered did not seem to match the description at all (seaweed salad?) and was really more of a cole slaw... More

I enjoyed my vegan lunch at Candle 79- had dined at sister Candle 90 several times- there is a breadth and depth to the choices and my bbq seitan appetizer with grilled corn and fresh tomato salad was outstanding- it was convenient for me but would have made the time to eat here- can't wait to return

My wife and I have been meaning to come here for years, but rarely find ourselves on the Upper East Side. An early dinner here was the perfect end to a lovely day at the nearby Met. Our meals were delicious from start to finish, and our server was very professional and pleasant. Expensive, not surprising given the location (especially... More

It was delicious! The service and decor were great, and the food rocked. So much selection and for all diets and types of people. I got the mushroom crepe, I highly recommend it, and the brownie sundae for dessert. The price is high but it's worth it.

The restaurant has a nice ambiance and we were seated by the window upstairs, possibly the best seats in the restaurant. The food was good. Not amazing, in my opinion, but good. The presentation was excellent. Be prepared to spend 150-200 dollars for two people.

I am very much a carnivore. However, the vegan food at Candle 79 is some of the best NYC food of any type that I have had. The menu is broad and interesting. Presentation was excellent and the taste amazing!

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
