I actually have a favorite place....

To be clear. I eat around. Don't judge me. I'm not hidden and very up front about it. Too much to eat and drink to settle down. And to be maybe a bit too truthful - when I need it done right - I prefer to do it myself. Cooking that is. But last night I had a really perfect... read more

Booked this place on OpenTable to guarantee a reservation on a Monday night. Got there 10 minutes before reservation seating and got the perfect table for two upstairs by the window. My husband and I shared three dishes - the Fiddlehead fern quinoa and avocado salad special, the live tomato lasagne and wild mushroom crepe. All were fantastic and super... More

For any of you doubters out there about how creative vegan food can be prepared, one stop to Candle 79 and you will stop doubting. Fresh, flavor-full dishes with no creative boundaries populate the menu and the atmosphere is amazing too. Make sure to start with the Guacamole Timbale, a wonderful creation with a mouth watering ranchero sauce and the... More

We had the opportunity to have lunch there yesterday. They were prompt and our table was ready as it reserved on open table. The fruit drinks were delicious as their entrees. We ordered the seitan piccata and the mushroom crepe the dishes were beautifully presented and tasty.

I would normally not come here as I enjoy my meat and this is an all vegan place. Came with a date who is vegan and must say I was pleasantly surprised. Some of the best tasting vegetables I've ever eaten but again not really saying much since I usually eat all meat. The cauliflower is so sweet and hot... More

The menu offers dishes which sound more exciting than they turned out to be - did not feel that the flavours were all they might have been - but it was pleasant and nice to have a choice of veggie options.

What Candle 79 offers vegans, is something I'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else, in any other city. This is a fine dining experience that puts vegan food into the delectable space that is deserves to sit. Easily placing itself above all other non-vegan dining experiences I've had, you'd be hard pressed to find even the toughest meat-eater who... More

Probably the best vegan restaurant I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Very pricey though - but definitely worth it.

My wife and I had a great dinner here. We have only been to a few restaurants where we have a difficult time choosing what we should have. Usually the choice is made for us. Our sever was great. She asked us if where we were from. When we told her she said that made sense. We were too nice... More

Went based on reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was great, some great combinations of taste, and I am not Vegan or even vegetarian. Service great too...not what I had read.

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
