Went on TA recommendation.

When doing research for our holiday to NYC this restaurant came up often in the forum. We were looking for somewhere to eat on our last evening and as it was easy to access on the subway we decided to give Gennaro's a try. We were glad we did. The place was thriving on a Friday evening and we... read more

We didn't read the reviews b4 we decided to dine there, that was my big mistake, we had a terrible experience, went there to meet friends , food was ok, but the server was RUDE and ARROGANT, very unpleasant experience I Don't recommend this place to anyone , as one goes out either to celebrate or have a good time... Nothing more nor less. The food is tasty but it's a Little but expensive. The wine was great though. You must try it if you are nearby, but it doesnt worth a visit if you're notre.

Cash only policy. BEWARE!! Waiters RIP u off. I used to really like Gennaro's. The neighborhood Italian with fresh food. The last two times...I felt like really got screwed. I ordered a $60 bottle and they served me a $125 bottle, "by mistake". The veal Milanese was hardly covers with arugula and tomato. I asked for more salad. And they... More

Went here with family who had the local knowledge. The food and service was fabulous. One of the nicest family run Italian restaurants I've been to.

This is what all the good, not-snooty, Italian restaurants in America should be like. Kind of like Carpaccio in Silicon Valley if you've been there. The food is recognizable, sizable, but astoundingly good. Also busy, noisy and hard to get a reservation for if you aren't a group of 15 or more. Show up early. Look at the menu: chicken... More

I've lived on the Upper West Side for almost 25 years and have been going to this restaurant faithfully since it opened perhaps 20 years ago. You will not find more delicious, seasonal, authentic, and reasonably priced Italian food anywhere in the city - period. Don't go here if you want spaghetti and meatballs and need to pay with a... This is the fifth time I've been here and always enjoy the terrific service, nice atmosphere, and consistently good food and wine. We had a bottle of wine, two appetizers, and two entrees for $130. The fava bean salad was yummy: fava beans taste like large edamame and it was served with red onion, shaved parmesan cheese, red onion and... More

Hands down, the best local restaurant. The food is always interesting and always well prepared. I particularly love their salads. Plus they have a large selection of wines by the glass. They have a cash only and no reservation policy but come early or on a rainy evening to be seated right away. It is a place to come back... More
