Comfy, neighborhood Italian. Old World, but trendy at the same time.

First of all... CASH ONLY (They will take a debit card if you insist, but they'd rather do the cash thing.) My wife have been here a number of times and we've introduced many, many people to this place when we've gone. Definitely NOT the typical Italian fare where most places have "Parmesan this... read more

I don't get to go as often as I'd like. It's a small place, no reservations, cash only, and popular, with all ages. The food is amazing. On fridays they have a salad with sardines (stuffed with raisins and breadcrumbs). So tasty. And unlike other places, these sardines have no bones--large and delicately breaded. Wonderful pastas. Always more specials than... More

Our air bnb host recommended this place and she was not wrong! Beautiful Italian food, fair prices, generous servings. Would go back in a heartbeat - in fact, it's probably a good thing we ate there on the last night or we might not have eaten anywhere else.

Not authentic Italian and all dishes are strong taste, but it’s good. It’s a bit expensive, but we keep going regulary.

It was absolutely bucketing down and an old friend and I were desperate to get out of the rain and have a drink or two to wait out the storm. We just jumped in here. No thought involved. Lucky us. This is a restaurant but we were mainly here for a drink and a snack. The bartender, a nephew of... More

Want to eat with the locals? This is one of the best italian restaurants in nyc. Bring cash and expect to wait on line - no credit cards and no reservations, but well worth it.

We've been here multiple times over the past few years. Charming friendly warm place with delicious food. On occasion we'll also see a famous face but the place is so intimate that all seem unassuming. Our favorites: Salsiccia and the broccoli rabe e polenta, gnocchi, osso buco, and the best TIRAMISU ever!! Reliably good food - best italian in the... More

Know before you go. Gennaro does not serve cocktails or spirits. They only serve wine and prosecco. Also, Gennaro does not accept credit cards, so take cash. If you're fine with this, you will have a delicious and memorable meal at Gennaro. The food is outstanding and typical of what you would find at trendy restaurants in Northern Italy today.... More

Based on a strong recommendation four of us went to Gennaro's on the Upper West side. The food was nothing special and the service was fair. The lasagna, burned; the risotto with mussels, scallops, shrimp, and lobster, no mussels nor scallops; and the gnocchi, bland and boring. The best dish was the vegetable soup. This group will search elsewhere for... More
