I had perhaps unealistic expectations for this establishment. We were invited as guests and told this was a local favorite of our hosts. You will either love the shabby chic atmosphere or wonder why they don't spruce up the place. To each his own. Our table was divided on this issue. I was craving more classic french food and was... This cafe definitely has a European feel to it. We very much enjoyed our breakfast. I had the Ratatouille Hash and it was outstanding!

Cafe Luxembourg has been in business at least 20 years at their same location, which by New York standards is almost an impossible achievement ! What is more astonishing is that their food has remained consistently great. Within minutes of sitting down for dinner with friends, the entire dining room was filled with people who lived in the neighborhood or... More

We're so glad you and your wife stopped by with friends, Arthur. It's great to hear you enjoyed your horseradish encrusted halibut and cashew ice cream for dessert. You are correct - we've been around for 31 years (this week is our birthday, actually). Thank you for your delighted response to our hospitality! Hope to see your group again soon.... More

This neighborhood bistro is reliably good, with fast, friendly service, a nice atmosphere and consistently fresh, tasty, well-prepared food. We have a part-time place on the UWS so this is a regular spot for us when we're going out for a good meal. It's popular, so it gets crowded and a little hectic, but it's worth the squeeze. We try... This restaurant is does not look imposing from the street, but its décor brings evokes a 1940s diner, complete with banquette seating and waiters in long white aprons. It seems like a place where residents actually eat. It was fairly loud but in a bustling, urban way that is not unappealing. Nearly one hundred tables are tucked in tightly around... More

One of my favorite restaurants in New York. I often come there alone, relatively late in the evening when most of the crowd is gone; sit at the bar. The service and food are excellent, The menu is simple which I think is an advantage: no restaurant can be realistically expected to have 20 excellent dishes. I would suggest taking... More

Seated on time in choice spot. Sweet server. After ordering chicken pailard which was a bit tough, too large and covered with spicy quinoa, I asked for a change. Kindly, pleasantly, I was served delicious eggs Benedict with perfect hollandaise, lemony and light. Asked for just one small chocolate croissant and was served one, no charge. Pleasant experience!

I'm so pleased to hear you enjoyed dining with us. We want every single one of our guests to be fully satisfied with their meal. While I'm sorry to hear the Chicken Pailard was not to your liking, I'm glad to hear your second choice of Eggs Benedict hit the spot. Glad to hear your service was efficient and accommodating... Reminiscent of Balthazar in London. A bit cramped, a bit busy....but excellent fare. Had oysters and then steak frite...well presented by attentive staff.

Great breakfast and service. The ricotta pancakes were amazing and my wife had the huevos racheros, which were also great. A little pricey but worth it. We loved it so much we went there a few days later. The second time, the food was just as good but the service wasn't, which is why I only gave 4 stars.

So glad you stopped by, Greg. While I'm thrilled to hear everything was spot on during your first visit, I'm a bit disappointed to hear your service wasn't as great the second time around. My wife and I were attending a show on West 71st Street, so we made a night of it. I just Google mapped the area and chose Cafe Luxembourg for it's proximity to our destination. We thoroughly enjoyed the decision. It is a small venue, sort of 1930s deco style, and the tables are pretty packed, so if you are... More
