GREAT THAI PLACE AND VERY REASONABLE

Everytime I go back it's always as good as the last. Service is good and prices are right. The only downside is the noise but everything else makes up for it....or else it would be perfect...:) The Pad Thai and Japanese Eggplant dishes are my favorite. if you go during happy hour mixed drinks... read more

I simply love this place! This is my comfort asian food spot in Manhattan. In a City where theres a restaurant in every corner this place really stand out. Servicre is spotless and fast. Menu is simple and not pretentious. Restaurants interiors are modern sort of canteen style noisy but not in a bad way. My only copmplain is the... More

I have eaten at Republic approximately once per month or two for more than ten years. I always have the same thing... can't remember now what it is.... (Kidding... spin on an old Steven Wright joke....) I have the steamed vegetable dumplings (which they took off the menu a couple of years ago and then brought back but not exactly... More

Asian "fusion" food, pretty average fare. Noodles, noodle soups, salads, that sort of thing. Decent pricing for NYC restaurants. Pad Thai - just OK. Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup - the calamari was too chewy, the spiciness was fine but the dish could have used some other spices like lemongrass or lime. The Mango sorbet was yummy but the Coconut sorbet... More

My husband and I love Republic! He lived in NYC for many years and told me about this place on our first visit there together. We don't make it to NYC often, but when we do we always stop by Republic. Atmosphere is nice, bar area is good for a quick meal and drink. The noodles with duck are my... More

My husband and I met some friends for dinner at Republic. Our friends had been there before and we really loved it. The atmosphere is great, really cool. The tables are set up family style so you may sit with other people but it is not a bad thing. The food was really great. The flavors were amazing and everything... More

I went here after asking a friend for a recommendation for a place to eat in New York that wouldn't break the bank. Republic was not only affordable, but the food was great, the drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) were creative and tasty and the ambiance was very trendy. I loved the long communal tables. I was happy to see... More

We felt very lucky to find this place. Enormous servings, cheap prices. Appetizers are only $4 and were very good. Very nice decor, if a little pretentious. Service was very friendly and not pushy at all. I wouldn't call it fine dining, but the food is very good, and it's hard to find this sort of restaurant at this price.

Tasty and filling catfish sandwich; the green papaya salad was a disappointment. Efficient and quick service.

This place resembles a trendy cafeteria filled with the young and the beautiful and the occasional annoying tourist who has to ask the waiter to explain what each and every thing on the menu is. Try the spicy duck noodles or the pho. They are sure to please. Sure the communal seating will definitely ruin any chances at a nice... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
