Wonderful Old Time Greenwich Village

I came here in January 2016 for the first time since the late 1990's. My first visit was in 1978 and the Spain was my favorite restaurant throughout the 1980's and 1990's. Had the chicken liver app and sangria. The chicken livers were tasty but a bit dry. Sangria was good and you get small pitcher for a decent price. I didn't get any of the "free" apps that everyone mentions, could be because i told the waiter that I was only getting an app...

The Spain is a throwback to another time in another Greenwich Village. It is an old school Spanish restaurant and old school NY. That's what I love about it. The fare is standard Iberian, generously served and reasonably priced. No soner had I sat down than the waiter laid on the table various small plates of appetizers: chorizo, mussels and... More

Our friends wanted us to experience some authentic Spanish food. The good: Free appetizers including: muscles, chorizo, meat balls, salad and bread all arrived the moment we sat down. The main courses were all plentiful. Some dishes were flavourful. I enjoyed the garlic prawns and the white fish in green sauce. Portion sizes were huge - none of the 4... More

Just found out about this place around 6 months ago, Been there twice already and loved it both times!! Old fashioned family restaurant that makes you feel welcome and at home. Salad and 3 different kinds of appetizers come right on the table. You can just get filled from them ;-) Bread and butter how much as you want. Main... More

Eating there over 30 years. Same owner, servers and decor. Food is the best Spanish I have had and have eaten in many Spanish Restaurants too. Decor is shabby but the food is far more superior.

This review is written in the spirit of friendly advice for the owner or manager. This restaurant needs more TLC and a chef who can better honor the wonders of Spanish cuisine. It could be a gem. Let's begin with the positives: -Old school restaurant in Greenwich Village, near Little Spain. Wonderful neighborhood feel; does have the ambiance of being... More

I've been going to Spain since my parents first took me there in -- what??? -- 1969. I live in South Florida now, so I only get an opportunity to eat here once in a blue moon these days. I'm firmly on the side of the people who say, "What are you getting all worked up about?" The place is... More

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
