As one of the first restaurants to lead the Meatpacking District’s revival, Macelleria has proven itself to be a staple in an ever-changing neighborhood. Owned and operated by Violetta and Sergio Bitici, Macelleria's rustic, Northern Italian cuisine never disappoints. Using only the finest meats and home-made pastas, each visit to Macelleria is like sitting in on a Tuscan grandmother's Sunday dinner. Drop by and you're likely to see Robert DeNiro or Jay-Z dining in the restaurant's wine cellar, constructed in-part using a 16th-century fortress.

Cool Restaurant and My Son's Favorite

After walking part of the Hi Line, we were hungry and happy to order steak. My adult son and I shared an appetizer and a great steak, which was slightly overdone. We like medium rare and this was a bit more well done. The hay and straw was our shared side dish. Yummy.

Stopped here for lunch before visiting the new Whitney Museum. Great lunch, pleasant ambience, terrific service. Came back again for dessert after our museum visit. I'll be back for sure!

I always enjoy going to the Meatpacking District, because I quite like the warehouse look, the little markets, the buzz and the High Line which ends/starts nearby. However, the real reason for going is yet another visit to Macelleria. The warehouse look is carried into the restaurant. The service is friendly and efficient. The winelist is good and the food... Saw a packed patio while wondering and looking for a place to eat. Went in and found seats at the bar. Drinks, food and service were all spot on. Eggplant parm was incredible as as the Salmon. Oysters and dessert were perfect compliments on the start and finish. Great find and would return for sure.

This meat packing district restaurant is known for its steaks. But we wanted a leisurely outdoor lunch without spending a fortune, so we ordered pasta. The fettuccine Bolognese ($14) was rich, flavorful and came in a good portion size. The straw & hay tagliolini, peas & prosciutto ($14)was creamy & perfectly cooked. We shared a classic iceberg wedge with gorgonzola,... More

It is an apparently popular restaurant in Greenwich Village near the High Line but you have to like the warehouse ambience to dine there. The warehouse-area surrounding it is not appealing. It is very informal, with wooden, unmatching tables and open doors (but the air-conditioning is sufficient, regardless). They have outside seating. The service is slow to attend you because... More

Many restaurants call themselves Italian, but are really American where you can order pasta or pizza. This restaurant must have a chef who has spent some time learning real Italian recipes. Delicious and healthy. It's just a short walk from the south end of the High Line and the Whitney Museum.

Recently had the chance to dine al fresco in this great little Italian Steakhouse near the Gansevoort. The neighborhood is great for people watching while you dine al fresco. The bartender, Maurizio designed hand crafted drinks for us that frankly gave this restaurant it's 5th circle. He also came to the table to personally check on whether we enjoyed the... More

We had a quick lunch at Macelleria after a visit at the new Whitney Museum. We managed to be seated without a reservation on a Mother's Day at 12:30 PM. I believe they have a lot of tables. The decor of the restaurant, which is located inside an old meat warehouse? in the meatpacking district, is very pleasant. My husband... More

All of the friends I was with (party of 6) had either beef or chicken and I can confirm that both were excellent. Service is attentive and the general atmosphere is charming. The place is nicely furnished and has tables outside which I recommend because the district it overlooks is great. The cost is in line with similar Manhattan restaurants:... More

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
