As one of the first restaurants to lead the Meatpacking District’s revival, Macelleria has proven itself to be a staple in an ever-changing neighborhood. Owned and operated by Violetta and Sergio Bitici, Macelleria's rustic, Northern Italian cuisine never disappoints. Using only the finest meats and home-made pastas, each visit to Macelleria is like sitting in on a Tuscan grandmother's Sunday dinner. Drop by and you're likely to see Robert DeNiro or Jay-Z dining in the restaurant's wine cellar, constructed in-part using a 16th-century fortress.

Had vongonle linguine and carbonara. Decor was nice. Food was nice. The waitress was good. we sat by the door and looled out on the sunny street.

Unfortunately not matching expectations .. Food is ok but nothing exceptional. They have a rather good wine choice but waiters are pretty poorly trained. Service is only ok. Bad value for money

Sat at the bar by choice as they had the front open during a gorgeous evening. Service at the bar was subpar. It's an Italian steakhouse, and in Italy you'd expect the casual (read inattentive) service as its part of the culture. Not in NYC. Considering it wasn't a full house, but they only had one bartender as well. Grilled... More

As far as I recall, twenty five years ago there was only one restaurant in this street (the much lamented Florent). During the day, the area was grubby and, when it was warm, rather smelly. And, although there was a lot going on, it wasn’t the kind of place nice people hung around much at night. But how everything in... More

Stopped in as a group at the end of our Foods of New York Tour of Chelsea Market / Meatpacking district. Restaurant was very nice. We all sampled pasta a la Bolognese. Very tasty. Liked the area, so will go back.

How awesome is this place! The best steaks ever!!! And pasta!!! Mmmm so yummy!!! Also this place has a private room downstairs and sometimes you can see celebrities having dinner there. Quite expensive but you don't eat steaks everyday!

I took a rib eye and I must say that the meat was tasty and well cooked. As for the service, you feel like waiters are putting pressure on you in order to make more money : they fill your glass (of water or wine) again and again so that you need to order additional bottles, they put pressure on... This place had intrigued me for some time now being it's prime location in the Meat Packing District. I had decided on this place to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday. The staff was very accommodating in setting up our reservation and we were seated promptly upon arrival on the main floor (if interested in a more rustic European feel, then... More

We felt like steak and did some Googling, glad we found this spot. Was nice and quiet for a Sunday evening dinner. Enjoyed the atmosphere and good service. Filet mignon, creamed spinach and fries were delicious. Forget which steak my husband had that evening, but he enjoyed it all. We would happily return if we stay in the area on... More

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
