Not the best place to dine

The food was ok, but not great. Pros: The food came fast. Cons: To loud music, small tables, the dessert was presented/looked like something a 6 year old child could have made.

Spicemarket is located in the hip Meatpacking District. I visited the resturant with my family after being reccommended it by several friends. The interior feels really unique and stands out from other more traditional resturants. It feels like travelling to Asia with all the dark wood and dim lights. Very cosy. The food was truly excellent and I can reccomend... More

This restaurant was a huge surprise as I generally do not like large spaces but the food was outstanding and dining experience was intimate. We started with the black pepper shrimp and moved onto a Cod swimming in a coconut curry. Also, you must try the signature ginger Margarita. Each flavor was a delight...a little heat that did not overwhelm... More

Went here with high hopes but left thoroughly disappointed. Service was cold and impersonal, and the place is run more like a fast turnover restaurant like Denny's. We were kept waiting for 30 minutes before being led to our table, and were then pressed to order ASAP. The food itself was average, and not necessarily that inventive. Don't have the... More

My husband and I hadn't been to Spice Market for several years. It was just as we remembered it.....a really cool interior, with a feeling of bustling and energy. The drinks are excellent.....from the kumquat mojito, to the Tarmarind punch. We had a great sampling of foods.....samosas, shrimp spring rolls, red curry duck, ginger fried rice and still one of... My partner and I were visiting New York from London for a week and our friend Phil decided to take us out during restaurant week. We chose the restaurant week menu, as it offers great food at a much cheaper price than the standard menu. We also chose the accompanying wines recommended by the restaurant. The food was excellent-very tasty... More

We visited the Spice Market on our last evening in New York after a wonderful week long trip to the city. All four of us had the tasting menu at $52. Some of the dishes were delicious - the chicken samosas a particular highlight. They serve samples of 3 appetizers and 3 mains. The last of the mains was very... More

If this restaurant was in London it would be closed within a week. Far too dark and the food was the same. Service was poor waited ages for the wine and didn't even give you cutlery for next course. Food was bordering on being warm.

Great location, great design, a little dark on the lighting for my taste but loved the open kitchen. Food was perfect. Can't wait to return. We had to book in advance to get in.

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
