Breathtakingly good

We had a perfect evening at Alta. It began with a great welcome from the very friendly staff. Some delicious and good value Portuguese sparkling rosé. And then, my oh my, the food! We had the dates wrapped in bacon, the prawn and chorizo skewers, the chicken 'cigars', the Brussels sprouts... read more

Had dinner here with a friend and we shared several small plates, all of which were good - especially the brussel sprouts with bits of apple.

My wife and I had dinner here with our son and his gf. Overall the food was quite good. Every dish was tasty. We had to slow the waitress down as initially the kitchen was pushing dishes out all at the same time instead of spacing them out. Suggestion: order a couple of dishes at a time to space out... AMAZING! Tapas style food. Every single item we ordered was amazing. The brussle sprouts were so good we had two orders. Very romantic setting. Dark with a lot of candles. Great service. Intimate setting. Go!

One of my friends tried to find a Spanish Restaurant near 9th street, and the search was all worth it. Typical Tapas place, with good portions and great atmosphere. Service attendants are very friendly too with the food advice/drinks. "Paella" should be definitely tried! Do try the Spanish Estrello beer too..

Last visit in NYC we discovered this gem. We were so excited that we came back next day to sample more items. On this visit in NYC we had to get back to this place. Things have quite changed since last time: Many menu items were dropped, some great dishes have shrunk, some dishes were not prepared carefully enough, and... More

I was there with six friends and we did not find the place interesting enough to come back. - Ambiance: no ambiance, the noise level prevents you to have a normal conversation; and it was on a week day, I hate to see what it could be on weekends. - Drinks: the Sangria red that some customers seemed to like... Look very closely or you'll never find this gem. It's squirreled away in the downstairs of a Greenwich Village brownstone that's located in the heart of the action. As you enter from the street you'll walk down a few stairs and past a large and lively bar area. The drinks are generous and expensive. I'd suggest dinner on the 1st... More

For an unforgettable dining experience for a date night or with a group, Alta has the perfect atmosphere! They have a huge menu of delicious tapas to choose from, and the service is wonderful. Hidden in a renovated brownstone on W. 10th Street in the Village, there are multiple levels you can choose from depending upon which type of dining... More

I went to Alta with two friends on a Saturday evening, and all of us really enjoyed it. It was expensive--we had drinks, several plates, plus desserts--but worth it. We started with Spanish Manhattans and Non-classical Sangria. One of my friends has a shellfish allergy, so that meant we couldn't get some of the things on the menu, but we... More

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
