Favorite Tapas Restaurant

I've dined at Alta four times in the last four years. Each time the food dazzles and makes me remember when I come back. In fact I have reservations upcoming on July 11th for a 5th trip. The food is consistently excellent. Although i know one of their chefs recently moved on and took some of his... read more

My wife and I were at Alta this evening, and sure enough, we witnessed a little mouse running around on the floor of the upper dining area. The restaurant at the time was not overly crowded, so the little guy was able to roam freely without any problem. Still, we witnessed this from afar, as did a couple at a... More

Sat at bar for dinner. Good menu and food all very delicious. Slightly expensive but i think it is a great place to come for a date or with friends. Highlights - Salmon, beef pies and peanut butter dessert. Will return and recommended

Alta used to be my go-to place. It has a special place in my heart as it was the place of one of my first dates with my husband. We hadn't gone to Alta in the past year as things were hectic but we decided to go back when our friend invited us for dinner. What happened??? Alta used to... More

Forget about your overpriced faux italian restaurants around Downtown, Soho and Times Square this little taps place beats them all hands down. 4 Australians went there on a Saturday night. Very crowded so ushered upstairs but that was fine. Pleasant and knowledgeable wait staff, good sangrias and good european wine list at reasonable prices. We shared many dishes and they... More

Really a great restaurant with a chic menu that will be pleasing to the most demanding palate. The format of the menu is towards sharing 2-3 dishes per person amongst the people at the table. we had a number of dishes and the two items I would recommend everyone try is the fried chick peas and the bacon wrapped dates.... We were brought to Alta by hosts entertaining us during a professional event, and were duly impressed. Wait staff was lovely and the ambience was perfect. We were served upwards of 15 different tapas and, while I didn't choose to try all of them due to dietary restrictions, a few of the highlights included the brussel sprouts, the beet salad,... More

Alta is one of my favorite NY restaurants. The sangrias are delicious, and among my go-to dishes are the bacon wrapped dates, the foie gras, and the japanese eggplant. I have never had a bad dish there, so I'm always open to trying something new.

What began as an enjoyable evening deteriorated into a mediocre experience. Once we squinted our way through the small-type menu, we ordered food that was moderately impressive, especially the braised beef, bacon-wrapped dates and gnocchi, and the drinks were all right. But we were served by one waiter after another, and we never developed a rapport with any of them.... More

This is simply an amazing place and should be part of your NYC experience..This is a hole in the wall place, a small door leading into foodie heaven..if your making a booking for a romantic dinner, ensure you book the third level for two..It has a balcony overlooking the restaurant. This place is at 64 W10th Street, all you will... More

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
