I'd really give it 3.5 stars. Have enjoyed the food at Balthazar many times and my friend really loved it. But I do feel that it's a bit of a "factory" in that the food comes out too fast and you feel very close to the guests dining next to you! But it's great and I will go back!

I've had both breakfast and dinner at this French bistro. I've been satisfied and the food has been good, but not great. I would still recommend Baltazar but more because of the cozy atmosphere than the food. It's a popular restaurant and when I have been there, or walked past, it often seems crowded. It's probably a good idea to... More

Already at the seating desk you feel that this will be fine. This time we come for some the European lager, and the feeling of having traveled across the Atlantic present themselves. The sound volume is palpable but somehow it fits well in here.Definitely one of New York's classics and one of the city's nicest restaurant environments if you do not have a... The food is good, but not great. The service is okay, but not at all impecable. The ambience could be better if not sooooo extremely noisy.

Having had Balthazar cookbook for years, we knew what to expect and we weren’t disappointed. Although a meal there (with a cocktail, an entrée, a dessert and a coffee) ends up quite expensive, the quality of the food and the carefulness of the staff justify the price. The only thing that bothered us lightly was the noise level, but it... More

On a recent visit to New York we dined at Balthazar. It was recommended Basically it is a large, noisy french bistro. I had oysters and a classic steak frites which were very good ~ no complaints. I found some of the wait staff were a little condescending. It's not cheap. Would not recommend going out of my way to... More

Beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere. I came for brunch as a single traveller and ate at the bar, but I never felt lonely. The service was excellent despite being busy and the food was divine.
