Haven't found a better onion soup in NYC

For us, the onion soup is superb. Balthazar has become a must stop for my wife and me while in NYC. The meat is excellent, the service is very attentive. Superb Crème brûlée.

We met some friends here based on a recommendation from someone. The staff was nice and welcoming. The food is another story. For the prices, one would expect something special. All I can say is 'what a joke'. Mediocre food at best. My husband had the brioche french toast which was basically a few pieces of underwhelming white bread with... More

We had been recommended this restaurant as a 'must do' NY restaurant experience but frankly speaking it was highly over-rated and as others have said 'a bit of a tourist trap'. Things didn't go well from the start for our lunch. We had reserved a table but had to wait 20 minutes despite the fact that others who arrived after... More

Amazing restaurant with amazing service. Spent my birthday here with my mum and sister. We had a great booth table. An amazing night. Highly recommended.

We booked a table in advance as we were in NYC for thanksgiving and this restaurant was recommended. We had a basket of bread to start, hubby had the thanksgiving turkey dinner I had a seafood linguini (small portion) and we shared a chocolate pot dessert,2 glasses prosecco and we were $140 - food tasted good, atmosphere was great and... Much sought after, and was packed when we were there for dinner. The tables are somewhat close together. The food was good (classic French) but not outstanding. Great atmosphere and clearly everyone was having a good time. Would go back.

Went here on a Saturday night and we were all a bit jet lagged but the atmosphere in this place soon woke us all up! The food was good, my daughter and I had the steak au poivre and my husband had the t bone lamb and said it was really good! Washed down with a good bottle of red... More

Went here after hearing about it for so long, we had to wait nearly 90 mins for a table but when the food came it made up for it- amazing!

Having visited New York a number of times, had never got round to booking a table at Balthazar. Am now so glad that I did. Booked a table in advance easily online from the UK, and confirmed before we flew out. Is a very busy place, but this adds to the atmosphere, our booking was for 2.30 on a Friday... More

not getting all the fuzz about Balthazar. It's that kind of place where tourists accept a long wait because they consider themselves high end travelers. Make sure to wear your Moncler Jacket if you wanna blind in (horrible crowd). About the food: it was OK, but nothing special. If you are into eating at a crowded touristy place...try a Hot... More
