It has been quite a few years since I last ate at the original Yama that was located under a buiding off of Irving Place. The line on the sidewalk to get into the restaurant was long and Yama had a reputation as being the best sushi restauarant in New York. So it was with some apprehension that I decided... More

I used to go to Yama Carmine for sushi twice a month. I stopped by last week and unfortunately, they are now closed. I didn't see a "We've moved" sign, so I guess that's it for this establishment. I was just so disappointed. I was looking forward to great sushi. Oh well, as they say, good things must come to... More

Excellent and stable establishment (5 years plus), which delivers extremely good japanese cuisine, supported by perfect service. King crab roll was just perfect, just as salmon sushis and tartar. Highly recommended

Very good sushi at this cozy place just off 2nd Avenue. Our service was very good. Attentive and helpful but not pesky or overbearing. Presentation was amazing. Sushi came out on a wooden boat that was placed on the table. Good quality overall.

I know it never helps to hear about how great a place used to be but when Katsu used to own the place the sushi and sashimi were enourmous. Now they are just very big. Fish is always fresh. Can be expensive ala carte, but the assorted sushi and assorted sashimi are great deals despite not a 5 star rating,... More

I recently ate at Yama for the first time, on Irving Place, and was flabbergasted at the sheer size of the pieces of sushi. The salmon was gorgeous, the salmon roe a giant, towering pile, the tuna bella nice and flavorful. But, the gold medal goes to the slab, yes slab, of sea eel which I found myself staring at... More

The sushi at this place is great, but I've never had worse service at a restaurant in New York City. Our water glasses were empty the entire meal, our waitress yelled at us not once, but twice - first when we asked for dessert (after waiting 30 minutes after we finished our meal) "NO KITCHEN CLOSED" - extremely loudly, embarrassing...
