Visited for lunch, fresh food but tiny cafe!

I met some friends here for lunch, the food was tasty and fresh but the place was packed and there wasn't much room to move around. I had to move my chair a few times to let people pass to go to the bathroom... Also the restaurant does not take reservations :/

Tartine has a beautiful location on a West Village corner. From outside the restaurant does not look any special. The interior consist of simple tables and stools, making you wonder about how comfortable the visit will be. The walls are decorated by french maritime pictures and others. We took the todays lunch menu with a soup and a main course.... More

Oops. Managed to squeeze into a table, drink an orange juice and then realize it was a prix fixe brunch. My fault completely. Decided to skip the $18 brunch and grabbed an almond croissant instead. Tasty. Neighborhood is classic, try to sit outside in better weather. Especially if you are claustrophobic.

If you like poached eggs you will LOVE Tartine. This is tiny place in the Village so on the weekend you may have to wait. We go lucky and go a table at 1pm on a Saturday which is slightly unheard of in NYC. Anyway, they have a variety of poached egg dishes and they are amazing. They have other... More

This place is perfect for brunch! Prix fixe menu and the food is delicious! One of the best omelets I have ever had! Service is efficient as well and the fact that it is in West Village gives it a lovely vibe. I hadn't been back in 4 years and I have to say that I am still as enthusiastic... More

Tartine is a lovely little restaurant tucked away on a quiet tree lined street corner in the middle of West Village. The menu tends toward the heavier, old school French, with plenty of cheese and cream sauces, but there is lighter fare also. The appetizer menu is well thought out and inventive, featuring a spinach and artichoke tart with Gruyere... More

The fact that this place is 'in' amazes me. It's kitch, rude, and the food is stodgy and terrible. Fixed prices for meals include bad filter coffee and concentrate orange juice. Staff are rude, and slow. The whole place is just really average. It deserves 2 stars but Ive given it 1 to compensate for the hype.

Very small place with every inch used up to sit guests. No reservations, but our group of 6 got there before 11am on a Sunday and got a table within 20 minutes. They even served us coffee while waiting outside in the sun as it was a beautiful day. Be warned though that when we left before noon the line... More

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
