Mario Batali freshness in the west village

Mario Batali resto in the west village. In a quiet street in the best part of New York. We walked into the dark-ish, but still inviting restaurant for Saturday lunch. Decor is classical, and more formal than most Italian restaurants. Restaurant was full so just as well we booked in advance. We all... read more

Was there last night with my family for a special occasion dinner. We were greeted as soon as we arrived by Edgar. The entire staff are so nice and professional. Our waiter was superb in every aspect of our dinner, helping us with the menu, how much to order, how certain items are prepared etc. We had a few appetizers... More

We went to Babbo as a very special treat for family and friends. Our table had been reserved and confirmed three weeks prior to arrival, but 'mine host' disagreed with this and confused our booking with that of another diner......eventually it was sorted for us but meanwhile we had to stand in the crowded entrance area (and one of our... Hit Babbo with the Mrs. for a late post-comedy show meal on Friday night. Checked in at the host stand and was greeted discourteously. Even more so when we informed him that our guests were not joining us and we'd only be two. "Hhmph! Is that so?" he remarked scoldingly. I know that attitude is part of the NYC dining... More

I often stay at the Washington Square Hotel and Babbo is right across the street. Here is what I love about Babbo: The food is perfection every time, and the staff treats you great if you are dressed up, dressed down, or even if you are just a regular person (not famous, just hungry!) If you are with a hungry... More

We wanted to try Babbo because of the famous owners and it was right across the street from our hotel. Since we had no reservation we were seated in the walk in section by the bar and the front door which is close quarters. The wine by the bottle is all expensive with some bottles in the hundreds and even... More

Went for a family birthday. We were seated promptly. The music was loud at times but enjoyable. We had the pasta tasting menu. Every course was delicious. Felt something was amiss though. Probably after 2 courses would like something besides pasta. Maybe would have been better with the traditional tasting menu. Service was fine.

My husband and I have used Babbo as our "special occasion" restaurant off and on for many years. We have probably eaten there 20+ times in the last 10 years; we are not regulars by any stretch of the imagination, but we know the place fairly well. We also know that it is an aging star - they have a... More

I have tried for the last three visits to NYC to get reservations at Babbo. Finally, third time was the charm and well worth the wait. Three of us and a wonderful dinner with lots of delectable courses and a lovely wine for a total of about $292.00. Saturday night and every table was full of people enjoying great food... More

This is a very good Itailian Restaurant. But seemed a little tired. Surprisely the pastas were the weakes dishes we had. We had a fisherman calamari which was calamari in a fresh tomato sauce with a hint of heat. I felt like I was on the beach in Italy. We also had the Halibit and it was tasty and interesting.... Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
