Before deciding on this restaurant for lunch I read many of the reviews on Tripadvisor which were mixed to say the least. It appeared that dinner had more negative experiences than lunch so we opted for lunch. The restaurant was probably 85% full when we arrived for our 1:30 PM reservation and we were seated immediatlely. The service was excellent,... More

Had dinner at Babbo after about a 2 year absence. We have been long time fans of Mario Batali (named our cat after him). We were impressed and pleased as we have been over several visits. We were seated at our reserved time. The entire staff was welcoming and friendly. Our appetizers of octopus and tripe were excellent as were... More

Given the build-up, I expected more. The brownstone atmosphere is pleasant but not magical. Service at lunch was surprisingly haphazard--the coat-check woman made me wait at the bar, even though my friend had taken our table, and then it took 15 minutes for the waiter to bring my drink (had to remind him). He seemed much more fixated on asking... More

Delicious and expensive. They kept us waiting, and we had a less than attentive waiter. The bread was cold, and was not served with any type of condiment. The panacotta had no flavor, the coffee was forgotten, and they made a $40 error in ringing up the check. Very disappointed.

The food was interesting but not good enough for the price. The atmosphere was frat house like, with loud music and shouting crowds.

We chose the Traditional Tasting Menu with reserve wines and were treated to a life long memory! Patricks' parings were perfectly exotic and Susan's' table-side manner left us wanting for nothing. In fact this was the best wine and wait service we have ever experienced. If your in New York don't miss this!

Babbo's is located in Greenwich Village just a short walk from the Public Theatre. It was highly recommended to us. It is extremely upscale italian and extremely popular with the entire world it seemed. What a crowd. They had no reservations available but told us to just come in as they always save some tables for walk ins. We were... More

Just three examples from a very unpleasant experience in a pretentious place: the strip steak (ordered medium rare) was hardly visible on the plate, burnt to death, looked like black french fries; the arugula salad came in a heap like Monet's hay stack, without the ornamental cheese stripes ready for a cow to find pleasure in it; the quail was... Authentic and simply delicious. it is not overrated, it is simply genuine and you pay for the real quality you order. The octopus was the best ever , the amatriciana was even better than at Spago or any other italian restaurant in the US. The wine list espacially white wines is terrific, nice location, great and very authentic the central... More
