Good food, but way overpriced

Although the service is great and food is quite good, clearly you're paying for this restaurant's lease. The space is huge and in the heart of Tribeca. The food is good, but you're probably paying a 25% premium over comparable restaurants in less expensive areas (much more for the wine list).

From the traditional and elegant decor to the market style fish counter, spectacular service and exquisite menu Thalassa really ticks every box. The restaurant itself is airy, chic and Mediterranean with a buzzing but not overpowering atmosphere. The food was really exceptional and our waiters knowledge of the menu and every aspect of the food and wine was on another... More

I had the lamb shank (on the small side) which came in a delicious lemon flavored broth. All three of my dinner companions had fish, and all reviews were excellent. Although service was generally good, when the main dish was presented, the servers placed the dishes in front of the wrong guests--would not have expected this bleep in such a... More

The food was excellent, we had zucchini fried for starter and giant shrimps for main course. Everything was very, very good. The only problem is that if you live in the 5th Av zone, it's very difficult to come back from there, so be sure you book a taxi in advance

Nice subdued setting for dinner. Fresh fish on display as you are seated. Our party of four all had fish which was very well prepared. I cannot speak for the meat dishes offered but I would certainly recommend the seafood dishes. Helpful wait staff both for wine and menu selections.

We live locally to this restaurant and do go every so often. The food is super fresh and you will be able to view the fish on the way to your table. The waiters are very knowledgeable and we took his suggestion on a greek wine that was very good. I also had the Lavraki (a greek fish similar to... More

In a neighborhood that has become a destination for foodies, one of the first great restaurants to open its doors there continues to stand head and shoulders above most of its neighbors. Great fresh fish cooked as only the Greeks know how to, great service and an outstanding bar, this restaurant has everything you could wish for for a romantic... More

Both the quality of food and service are excellent. The appetizers (recommend the eggplant/zucchini chips) and grilled whole fish were superb.

I have visited this restaurant three times in the past few months (twice for business and once with spouse). Its specialty is fish and seafood (naturally as Thalassa is Greek for "Sea"). I live in New England where the fish and shellfish are among the very best and freshest in the world. But the dishes i had at Thalassa were... More

We had our wedding here. An absolutely perfect venue for 90 people. Wonderful, attentive service and super helpful management. The food was absolutely fabulous, and that's not easy to do for a big crowd. Can't say enough good things about it. Beyond expectation.

Staying in TriBeCa

Neighborhood Profile
TriBeCa
What’s in a name? In this case it is the unique title of “Triangle Below Canal Street” that became a popular nickname in the 1970s. An attractive neighborhood filled with handsome lofts on the edge of the Financial District, this lovely slice of Manhattan offers plenty of fine dining experiences and art galleries. Plus, it’s home to the city’s most exciting film event, the Tribeca Film Festival, that takes place here every year. TriBeCa is a great place to take a leisurely stroll before stopping into one of the many local restaurants or bars for a satisfying meal and cocktail. You’ll see families out for an afternoon walk, and don’t be surprised to come up with the occasional celebrity sighting. With such a great vibe, many of the city’s most famous residents call this neighborhood home.
