Great first visit

I've finally found a great Indian restaurant in NYC. I've been living here now for about 3 months and desperately missed Indian food done well. Compact restaurant but perfectly formed and loved everything we ate. Can't wait to go back.

If you crave an authentic Indian curry whilst in NYC, then find the time to visit this small restaurant with a great atmosphere, in the lower East Side. You'll likely be greeted by the charming and friendly owner (the "masala wala") who'll take the time to chat with you and offer suggestions from the menu based on your tastes. Whatever... More

The resturant is small but clean with a nice decor, but as I... More

First time here with family and friends and the owner greeted us very kindly even though most of the tables were reserved. The appetizers came first. The food, incredible. I had the lamb rogan josh, but I bet if I had anything on the menu it would've been just as delicious. It is definitely a place you need to come... More

My wife loves Indian food (I'm so-so about it), but it was her birthday and I wanted to surprise her with a great meal. Based on the reviews I picked this place in NYC. It lives up to the reviews. Great service, excellent food and reasonable NYC prices. Not many tables but you don't feel too crowded. Vast selection of... More

We visited the best Indian restaurant in NYC. You know that when you step in. Great authentic service, nice lamb, gorgeous chicken massala and the best mango desert we've ever had. Treat yourselves and go to The Masala Wala!

I came to New York to visit family on a budget. By the time a friend and I decided to meet up, I was on the broke side. The first place she picked looked like grease city and o declined when she introduced the idea of Indian cuisine I said yes without hesitation. I love Indian food! We checked the... More

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
