My wife loves Indian food (I'm so-so about it), but it was her birthday and I wanted to surprise her with a great meal. Based on the reviews I picked this place in NYC. It lives up to the reviews. Great service, excellent food and reasonable NYC prices. Not many tables but you don't feel too crowded. Vast selection of... More

We visited the best Indian restaurant in NYC. You know that when you step in. Great authentic service, nice lamb, gorgeous chicken massala and the best mango desert we've ever had. Treat yourselves and go to The Masala Wala!

I came to New York to visit family on a budget. By the time a friend and I decided to meet up, I was on the broke side. The first place she picked looked like grease city and o declined when she introduced the idea of Indian cuisine I said yes without hesitation. I love Indian food! We checked the... More

If you like authentic indian food… definitely go to this place. I have hardly tasted a better biriyani than this place, and that is not all, dp save some place for dessert. You will love it.

You will find a lot of indian food variety here at reasonable prices. Had gone there with a bunch of friends and ordered a bunch of dishes. What we liked the most was chicken tikka.

my wife and I went there in March after reading reviews on Yelp, and we were so glad that we did. Excellent food, price is quite attractive too. Mr, Masalwala is also very fun to talk to and give personal attention to customers' orders. The food did not taste like made from canned tomato paste, everything tasted fresh. Excellent service... Got here early for an evening meal. When I made a reservation there weren't many time options and yet when we turned up the restaurant was empty?! The service was decent, very efficient but not super friendly. The food was good, the chicken in our curries was tender but there wasn't any white meat. The starters (samosas and bahjis) were... A small restaurant, not much from the outside - but the food!!!! Large portions, not too strong. I can recommend the chicken korma. And do try their special frozen mango for dessert. Also notice the very polite and attentive service.

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
