Great good and atmosphere!

4 of us made it here for dinner on Friday night. The place was empty but they still seemed hesitant to give us a table that was reserved for 7:15, even though it was 5:15. The service was standard & the food was good. Two of my friends got the chicken tikka masala, I had lamb vindaloo (my fave dish)... More

We love to eat at restaurants serving food we don't know how to make, and couldn't resist MasalaWala. Small & cozy, with every table filled with happy diners, we expected a great meal, and got it. If you like Indian, you will love MasalaWala.

WOW! The food was great and so was the service! We ate a spicy chicken vindaloo, just the way we like it! I've tried many indian restaurents, and this is no doubt the best one in new york!! Mr MasalaWala himself asked us feedback about the fantastic meal!!

To be honest I'm terrified of spicy food and not very good at variety. I tried the mango yogurt drink and the Indian soda but in the end went with the regular coke however my girlfriend loved both of those drinks. The waiter was kind and attentive although didn't seem to be happy when I asked for ice. The food... More

Located on the Lower East Side, this restaurant was close to our hotel. We had tried to book a table on the last visit to NYC, but they were full. We knew to book early this time, and everything was even better than expected! While the restaurant was busy, it was not packed at 9:30pm. We were seated immediately, and... More

Dropped in on 4th of July for the first time and discovered exceptional authentic Indian food and friendly service. Joined by my wife and two kids, we all left very full and happy with our experience! Yum!

I've finally found a great Indian restaurant in NYC. I've been living here now for about 3 months and desperately missed Indian food done well. Compact restaurant but perfectly formed and loved everything we ate. Can't wait to go back.

If you crave an authentic Indian curry whilst in NYC, then find the time to visit this small restaurant with a great atmosphere, in the lower East Side. You'll likely be greeted by the charming and friendly owner (the "masala wala") who'll take the time to chat with you and offer suggestions from the menu based on your tastes. Whatever... More

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
