Grudgingly Good

Suspicious of any new business near Soho (which means opening their doors after about 1990--I'm a dinosaur) I avoid anything that's helped to devolve the area from artists' lofts to the bland shopping mall it is today. But I grudgingly admit Payard is the closest to Parisian goodies I've had here... read more

Popped in for lunch and had the roasted chicken sandwich as in the original recipe from when the bakery first opened - delicious. Try the macaroons is also recommended. Friendly staff and a soft place.

My friend and I stopped in to the Francois Payard bakery for a quick morning coffee and pastry. Everything in the display case looked delicious. We chose an almond croissant, and it was tasty - fresh, flaky, almond-y - yum! We also enjoyed our coffees too. There was cafe seating in the bakery, and the staff was friendly.

Francois Payard has a world wide reputation as a pastry chef, having worked at many great restaurants, published at least three excellent dessert cookbooks, and establishing several cafes around the world, including at least three in Manhattan, New York. The pastries look delicious and beautiful. But what if you rarely eat dessert? This is still a great place for simple... More

I had visited the FP bakery inside the plaza, and it was wonderful. They make the best macarons that I have ever had. Just the right amount of sugar. This is a great place to go to for dessert.

Our family comes here often to buy quiches, breakfast sandwiches, and various other items. The food is consistently tasty and is even better when enjoyed in the cafe with a cup of their hot chocolate, which is some of the best hot chocolate in the city.

Killer macaroons! I got an assortment and each one is delicious and gluten free. A huge hit in my book.

Despite my previous experience from the Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich, I tried another flavor. I like the strawberry cheesecake flavor better because it tastes good and the macaron is softer than the ice cream, though the macaron itself loses its texture. The outer shell (macaron) is supposed to be softer than the middle (ice cream) in a macaron ice cream... More

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
