Good but portions a little small

We really like the Frankie's Spuntino in Brooklyn and decided to visit tone of the manhattan locations. The food was very good but the portions were small and to be honest not hing knocked our socks off.

My son and I went for dinner on a friend's recommendation. Had a 7:45pm reservation on a Saturday night. Went right to the table. Probably didn't need the reservation. Limited wine-by-the-glass list, and a bit pricey, but decent pour. Ordered the antipasto appetizer and a Caesar salad. Salad I could do at home, antipasto had great meat and cheese selection,... Walking through the neighborhood with my girlfriend, saw this place and decided to stop for happy hour at the bar. Ordered 5 dollar beers and decided to try 2 items from the menu. Unfortunately the person behind the bar stayed busy talking to other employees for the next 10 mins and did not even glance in our direction. We finished... More

We were originally trying for a table at The Spotted Pig around the corner, but after being told there was a 2 hour wait we stumbled across this place. A lovely corner setting, the atmosphere was cosy and welcoming, albeit a little dark. It was our first night in NYC and jetlag was catching up with us, so we wanted... More

My husband and I enjoyed an amazing dinner at Frankie's last night. I had the gnocchi, which lived up to other's reviews as being the lightest I have ever had. The arugula and mozzarella salad was also delicious. Our waiter was terrific, making excellent wine and entree recommendations. My husband was equally impressed with his escarole salad and pork braciola... More

Well... It all started good: we entered the restaurant, got a table, sit down and were so happy about the fact the atmosphere was great and really animated! Then it got weird: we got the menu with limited choices (usually good news) and some simple descriptions. The situation deteriorated when the dishes arrived: my pasta with mushrooms consisted of super... More

Went to Frankie's after a show. Arrived 9:30 on Sat night and no wait for inside tables. Great warm and comfortable atmosphere. Good service. Bread, fresh pasta, meatballs all are irresistible. Great for groups or couples.

We stopped by Frankies for lunch one afternoon in June and sat outside in the sun, the previous night we had visited Il Buco and as soon as we sat down at Frankies I wished we had come here instead. The food is of great Italian quality, make sure you try the Cavatelli, Sage Butter & Spicy Sausage, it is... More

The Frankies are well regarded chefs who began in Brooklyn, and have now expanded to Manhattan. The menu is simple, basic, and even includes sandwiches. On this visit, we had a beet/avocado salad with balsamic, asparagus, chicken liver crostini for appetizers -- all wonderful. But the BEST were the meatballs and eggplant parmigiana, just like your mother/grandmother used to make.... More

Originally, New York has been well-known as a lot of Italian restaurant. But, the restaurant style is localized - casual and friendly staff - but tastes are genuine. Olive oil, fresh pasta....

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
