Classic Italian in a lovely spot

The Frankies are well regarded chefs who began in Brooklyn, and have now expanded to Manhattan. The menu is simple, basic, and even includes sandwiches. We stopped by Frankies for lunch one afternoon in June and sat outside in the sun, the previous night we had visited Il Buco and as soon as we sat down at Frankies I wished we had come here instead. The food is of great Italian quality, make sure you try the Cavatelli, Sage Butter & Spicy Sausage, it is... More

Originally, New York has been well-known as a lot of Italian restaurant. But, the restaurant style is localized - casual and friendly staff - but tastes are genuine. Olive oil, fresh pasta....

We came here for dinner on Monday and it was a great experience. Stayed for ages drinking wine after dinner, and had great service. The meatball sandwich is really well priced and good, and the pasta is handmade. Good tiramisu, and some really great wine selections.

I gave this neighborhood place a rather cool review three years ago but fortunately we went back today and now feel much more positively than on our first visit. My spouse had lentil soup which was packed with vegetables and was delicious. With it, she had the mushroom crostini with truffle oil. That also was a hit. I ordered the... More

After taking some Italian friends visiting from Rome to the High Line (separate review), we are now in the Village and looking for a place to have a bite and some bubbly, while relaxing from the long walk. Philip Marie on the corner of Hudson & Jane Jacobs Way looks attractive enough: we seat outside and order a bottle of... More

A lovely restaurant with a super menu. The service was fast and friendly with a very relaxed atmosphere. The food was excellent and appealed to all of us. Would certainly go back.

Went here on a Sunday lunch time, what a find! I had the slow poached eggs with kale, corn bread and hollandaise, washed down with Chianti, a perfect combination, amazing. My other half had the meatballs with a draft beer and also recommended it. Can't recommend it highly enough. Good helpful service, great atmosphere and clean toilets!

We went to the West Village to try to get in to a celebrated restaurant in West 11th Street (a place that doesn't take reservations). Encountered a dismissive response at that one, but, their loss, not ours, as we discovered Frankies near by and were absolutely delighted to find they had a table for 6 available! We had a fabulous... More

We went to Frankies while we were waiting to get into another restaurant in the neighborhood. I am not going to name that restaurant but let me say, I wish we would have just stayed at Frankies. My husband and I sat up at the bar. We ordered a glass of wine each and some appetizers. The olives were great... More

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
