Saturday night visit - busy but good food and service

We arrived on the later side (almost 10 pm) on a Sat. night without a reservation and two teens in tow. The staff was very helpful and got us seated in a very busy restaurant in about 15 min. We had the homemade pasta dishes, wine/beer and a brussel sprout salad to share. Good food, noisy/lively... read more

Good location, great beer and pleasant hostesses. The "Pasta alla puttanesca" wasn't bad (I'm Italian and I have the best expectation regarding Italian dishes), and I wasn't impressed by the "Roasted mushrooms" either. It was okay, but all together was not my favourite.

How could I have missed this delicious, perfect local joint ??? I have gone back twice during this past week. The food was so comforting and yet delicious. My current favorites are the Roast Beef Sandwich and the Sicilian Tuna Sandwich. Both sandwiches are simply to die for... not only the protein parts were delicious and the texture of the... More

The hostesses were very pleasant, but our server acted liked he literally wanted to be any other place but there, and it came through in his attitude and performance. He never once smiled and never offered any thoughtful insights into the dishes or cocktails. He moved through his paces completely perfunctorily and it affected our enjoyment of our meal. Not... It was a Friday night at 9pm so it was packed. But I managed to get a seat at the bar and had the ricotta ravioli and a mixed green salad. The food was good (didn't rock my world, but fine). Service was better. The bartender I had was very attentive and professional.

We stopped for Frankies to have lunch last week and I will say the food was very good. The only issue is that there was only one waiter on duty so he was just overworked. He was great but they need to beef up staffing.

I was recommended their signature dish - a spicy sausage pasta. The flavours were fantastic but it could have been a bit bigger so order a couple of sides. Great meal and a fantastic wine list. Will definitely go new time we're in NYC

Not many great Italian places in this neighborhood. Thank goodness Frankies is open pretty much everyday for seemingly every meal. Meatballs still tops in NYC. The wine list is improved with some unusual by the glass options. Love the gnocci and the antipasto. If there is something they could work on it is the dessert, but the coffee is wonderful.... More

We've always been happy with Frankies so it was at the top of my list when accompanying friends on their first trip to NYC. And when I saw that they now have a location in the West Village, I was especially psyched since it's such a cute area and just seems so New York-ish. ;-) We were perfectly satisified with... More

Antipasto was good, nothing special. Bread was awesome with olive oil. Brusceta with chicken liver and the one with kale were the best. Pasta with mushrooms was good. Pasta with sausage loved it, a bit spicy but good. Pasta with crab and sea food, not so good. Tiramisu is worth going there for.

Staying in West Village

Neighborhood Profile
West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.
