Delicious Night Out

I visited Balkanika on a warm Tuesday evening and was seated in the open air front of the restaurant. The cheese burek and shopska salad were both delicious, delivered fast and large enough for sharing. The service was exceptional. I will definitely be back.

Travelling from Australia and both coming from a balkan background we were excited to find Balkan food in the heart of nyc We ordered chevap, a side salad and water. The chevaps were tasteless and had to be eaten with ajvar and goats cheese. My partner who eats chevaps regulary ate 2 of his 6 as they were chewy and... More

After a long day in Manhattan we chanced upon this restaurant in Hell's Kitchen and could not have been happier with the food choices, wines and service

I visited this place with my fiance last week. We were looking for a wine bar following a Broadway performance and stumbled upon this gem instead. He had been here before and loved it. I can see why. The food was to die for. I'm normally pretty picky about food I've never had, but my fiance (who is Macedonian) ordered... More

Dinner at Balkanika topped off my perfect overnight trip to Manhattan. The delicious spread and hot pita, beef burek and dolmas made for a perfect pre-flight dinner. This is a delightful restaurant with impeccable service. The seating at the open air window on a warm night couldn't have been more perfect. Can't wait to go back.

The restaurant proudly serves rare Macedonian cuisine, and, more generally, Balkan food. But, as much as we would like to recommend the place, be not mistaken anticipating some exotic food you have never sampled before. It is all the same Mediterranean food, not only in its essence but even in many of the dishes' names. So you see all-too-familiar Babaganush,... More

We had a reservation and we were led to the worst table in the restaurant - sandwiched against the back wall immediately adjacent to three other tables and next to the bathrooms. When we walked past the open fridge of prepared appetizers and vegetables all in white bowls, we almost left. Staying was a mistake. Everything was very obviously pre-made... More

When you get tired of the hype of Times Square and the ordinary overpriced fare, head a couple of blocks towards the Hudson for hearty meat, salad and good wine. We had the $50 shared mixed grill and a $25 cab sav and an entree and came out at $89US before tip. No way you could think of dessert!

We have been to Balkanika a handful of times over the last few years. It is surely a diamond in the rough in Hells Kitchen, where your meal will always be fresh, expertly prepared, and complimented by a nice wine and beer selection. The dishes are authentically Balkan, with a great mix of cold and hot options. Last weekend I... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
