Beauty & Essex combines a cool, speakeasy entrance, with a high end, high energy, yet classy and comfortable club environment topped off with great service and a wonderful "small plate" menu. Add to that the prices on food and booze are very reasonable considering you are in New York. The Lower East side location may give some traveler's pause -... More

Loved the entrance through the funky pawn shop. We ordered 8 courses - the grilled cheese dumplings were a standout, and so were the empanadas. Warning: the lobster Mac and cheese and the burger were not done tapas style (we were expecting sliders and little dishes) but most everything else was great. Try the marrow! Skip the chicken meatballs, though.... More

Well this is one restaurant our kids have been to often. We let them do most of the ordering. This is a tappas type restaurant. First off their are some very unique adult beverages to choose from. I usually drink my alcohol straight but was tempted by the Book Burner and the Woodsman. Both were refreshing and very different. Truly... More

My husband and I booked into Beauty & Essex for our recent trip to New York after a friend said it was her best dining experience in the city. Unfortunately we didn't rate it as highly. Atmosphere was very funky (as long as you like loud, pumping music) and the cocktails were great. However, we just didn't find the food... More

I just got back from dinner which is everything you could want! The restaurant was perfect, from an opening through a jewelry store (beautiful pieces, also musical collectibles) to staff to the background music and the food - designed for sharing. Stacey was everything you would want in a waitress - happy to make recommendations (all excellent!!) to fully cognizant... More

We had a delicious dinner at Beauty & Essex, but it's the atmosphere that really impressed us. Hidden behind a simple door in an old shop, you'll be surprised to find this really hip and cool place, with even champagne in the ladies room..

Spoiler alert...when you arrive and have to enter the restaurant speak-easy style through a pawn shop, your thought is - this is going to be either really cool or really lame. HUGE, HUGE surprise! Not only was it really cool, the food was extremely well presented and delicious. That is a good thing, because the whole pawn shop novelty concept... More

Decided to try this restaurant hidden behind a pawn shop, it has become quite popular. The food was incredible, I had 4 course tasting for Brunch...Pancakes!. After eating dinner at Stanton Social a month prior I knew what to expect from the menu. The staff was great however the atmosphere seemed to be lacking something.

The tone is set immediately when you gain entrance to this quirky restaurant. You enter through A PAWN SHOP! The swanky bar unfolds as you pass through the pawn shop and you feel as if you've uncovered a hidden treasure. Grab a drink at the bar and enjoy the atmosphere. The antique theme is carried throughout the restaurant and mixes... More

We went here because we heard good things and it definitely had all of the ingredients for a great experience. The entry was via a cool little jewellery store front and the decor was done very well. Even the presentation of the food was pretty good. Where it fell down for me was the quality of the food and the... More
