So Much Fun and Great Food

What a fun place to go. From the outside Pawn Shop with the back door into the restaurant, to the decor of early pawnshop chic, it has a great atmosphere. This was my second time, but first for the rest of the party. It's always a treat to go there. Yes, it is crowded and sometimes noisy, but the... read more

I'd say this is a MUST DO! My girlfriends & I all commented that Beauty & Essex felt like a place Carrie Bradshaw (from the Sex in the City show) would eat. We went for brunch at 2 PM on a Sunday and it was packed. Very hip & chic, the textiles & décor were fabulous. (There are 2 levels... More

This is New York at its very best. You could skip visiting the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty but don't skip eating here. Its fun, its alive, its happening, its great food. One of the best in the new lot of speakeasy bars, you enter through a pawn shop, make your way through the always crowded bar... More

Walk through the brightly lit pawn shop into the dark cavernous restaurant with techno beats everywhere including the restrooms and get seated at a table under a huge skylight looking at a roof top garden. Order from the tapas menu, which is just simple amazing. The best items we had were the Foie Gras, the meatballs, the ribs, and the... More

Went here for a friend's birthday. Very cool location, specifically at the rear of a pawn shop. The food was very good, especially the bbq fries. The cocktails were tasty but a bit overpriced for what they were. It was a good brunch and I usually don't mind paying for excellent food and drink but I felt disappointed at how... More

This restaurant is in a fun hidden location with great food. We really enjoyed all the items we tried which included oysters, grilled cheese & smoked bacon dumplings, lobster tacos, brussel sprouts, seared tuna, and sweet potato ravioli. They also had delicious desserts, it looks like they change seasonally, but we had a maple bacon cheesecake and peanut butter cups.... More

The front of the restaurant is a pawn shop which is actually a disguise.. We had to book to get a table and after a long day of sight seeing it was amazing to go to such a stylish, sophisticated place for dinner. The food was delicious and I had the chicken meatballs and we shared sides and the desserts... More

Came here for dinner on a Monday night and the place was buzzing. Great atmosphere, great, quirky entrance into a dining space that felt rather clandestine! Food was good and varied, the pink peppercorn cocktail was yummy and we were not rushed out. Service was great. Only complaint was that the music was just a tad too loud- but that... More

From the chic design to the courteous, professional service, this place was the ideal way to end our week in NYC. 6 of us shared 18+ small courses, every one of them a winner. The wine list was huge but Megan helped us through with a couple of perfect suggestions.

walk through the pawnshop through the non description door and BAM!! Upstairs and downstairs bar reminiscent of a 1920s speakeasy. Dark, mysterious, attractive wait staff. On,y wish they had a better selection of whiskey, scotch and bourbon ....

Neighborhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
