near Classic Stage Theater, and good food to boot!

We stopped in here for lunch on our way to an afternoon performance at Classic Stage Theater. We had good food and we also enjoyed the atmosphere. A Sunday with families and other groups gathered to relax and visit. I would go back when in the neighborhood!

We stopped for brunch, and the mimosa, the bloody marys and the eggs benedict were delish. What more can you ask for? Woodsy, sophisticated rustic feel, and very spacious bar area -- I bet that place is hopping at night. And the bathrooms were new and spacious and nice. You don't see that ver often in a little neighborhood place... More

what a place! we had dinner on haloween, beer was cheap (3$ a pint) and gooooood, we had the special burger which was percetly made, and fish-n-chips - traditional and good. the apple pie for desert was a nice addition. service was fast and accurate and all with a smile. must visit!

If you are in the East Village in NYC, you won't go wrong at The Penny Farthing at 3rd Ave and 13th St. Not the "best" food I've ever had, but we had a delicious lunch and the next day a sumptuous dinner there. Drinks? Go for it. Bartender and servers were very friendly. Outside dining was quieter than inside... More

Stopped in on a whim as I was heading to another restaurant. Was recommed by desk staff at Hyatt Union Square which is just a few blocks away. The lunch prices were very reasonable for NYC. Had a burger, coke & a glass of wine all for $20. Sat near the open windows which was nice - got the feel... More

We were looking to kill some time, so we stopped in the Penny Farthing for a drink. Our waitress was extremely nice and quick to bring what we asked. Prices were fine for New York.

Dropped in here whilst doing a walkabout in East Village and was not disappointed. Food was good value and tasty with good beer selection...we liked it so much after a bit of shopping dropped in on the way back but with it being HH is was rather rammed so ended poping in next door which is owned by same people.... Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
