Chock full o' Good

Took the family on a day trip into the city. Parked at Port Authority and hopped the Subways. Did China Town, Little Italy, Union Square Park, Flat Iron and then on to lunch. Looked at a couple of spots and after wandering through the snobby Eataly place we wound up by chance at Chock full... read more

We were looking for the old time Chock Full o'Nuts from the 60's and 70's.....read an article in the NYT from 2010 saying that after being gone from Manhattan for a long time (only located in Brooklyn), CFoN had returned to Manhattan. ARE YOU KIDDING? This location was a doorway.....simply a doorway. You could step inside the door about 4... More

Went to Chock full o'Nuts for Lunch yesterday. It is closed. There is an ugly sign on the door that indicates the place was SEIZED by the U.S. Marshal. Says under "new management". Not sure what to believe. Things were not quite the same two weeks ago when I was there. Makes me wonder where all the wonderful staff went... More

We stopped here by the Flat Iron building for lunch. Ordered a BLT with onion rings, and yes, they did impress me. My husband had soup and mentioned it was a bit brothy, but I didn't try it at all so can't comment myself. It's strange how many times you can eat a simple sandwich and not really pay attention,... Date Nut Bread with cream cheese, whole wheat donuts, egg creams, and yummy! Yesterday once more! You don't have to talk about it. Just go there and be transported to a taste that has come home again!

Finally found a Chock Full restaurant during my second visit to NYC and we weren't dissapointed. I'd read about it in several books written by people living in NYC during the 70s and they'd talked about the good service, good coffee and simple good food, and we weren't dissapointed. After a long day of walking around and exploring the city,... More

Walking to find a breakfast place, accidentally ran into this restaurant. Service was excellent and there was so much food we could of shared 1 order between the 3 of us.

Great spot for breakfast. Has a lot of the items that they used to serve at the old Chocks (date nut bread!), fresh muffins, great pancakes, and, of course, that Heavenly Coffee! Give it a try!

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
