This is one of the dwindling diners in New York City that closed this year, apparently last summer. I stopped by for eggs last week and learned the building is being converted/torn down for a condominium building of some magnitude. It was retro and a joy whenever I found myself on the west side and in the area.

We were walking back from the new Hudson River Walkway, up 11th Ave and decided to have lunch at the Diner. It was very good. It was not busy, and we got a nice table and very quick service. The soup was good and the portions nice sized. the menu is extensive an I had trouble deciding what to eat.... More

I have been going to the Market Diner for years. They have one of the best breakfast sandwiches and coffee EVER!! Their Salmon on Cesar is great and everything I have ever had has been tasty here. We do not need one more high rise in this area!!! So sorry to see this institution leave Hell's Kitchen....can't someone help?

I found this on TA and was looking forward to finding our go-to lunch place in the city. We did! But it's closing on November 1st. Go if you can! The aveglemeno (Greek chicken soup) is perfect and huge! The lamb shank was perfectly cooked as was its companion orzo. We were served a complimentary app of homemade hummus and... More

This place feels like stepping into an American movie. I've grown up watching American TV series and films featuring classic style diners. We loved this place, no frills, no pretence just food cooked the way you want it in whatever combination you want it. I had the chicken club sandwich which tasted beautiful and huge in portion size.

Forget the forgettable food courts and steamed hot dogs at the Javits. Walk the couple of blocks north. This is a real diner, with real diner food, real diner portion size (huge!), real diner service (fast!).

Choose this diner based on proximity to hotel and trip advisor reviews. Went at 3:00 on a wednesday afternoon. Only a few customers. Place was clean and the amount of food was generous. I would eat there again. Perfect choice for us.

A New York classic since 1962. IalI eat here all the time and everything's delicious; the people who run it are wonderful too. If you're here on the way to our beautiful waterfront, take in some of my favorite local sights: Thrift and New Shop, 602 9th Avenue. McGraw Hill Building, 330 West 42nd and across the street, Holy Cross... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
