Authentic Harlem (?)

Had dinner here on our first night in Harlem. The atmosphere is definitely as one would expect it, the place was really swinging. The food was pretty good too. Not the cheapest of places though, I suppose you pay for the fame.

As Canadians we were unfamiliar with Southern cuisine and this restaurant provided a great chance to experience it. Our server Jody rocked the menu and we loved everything we tried. Crispy yardbird chicken, great blackened catfish. The kale salad was very good with a salty tang. The sweet potato creme doughnuts were the perfect topper. Thanks for a great evening.

It's very cool looking and the music is fantastic, though too loud inside. We got a table outside and that was fine. There is a huge bar and great bar scene. I love the decor -- really cool and interesting. Even though Marcus Samuelson was fantastic at his previous restaurant, Aquavit, the "healthier" dishes at Red Rooster were wanting. The... More

If you want to eat in the Red Rooster you have to queue up. Reasonable food in an acceptable athmosphere. Correct mojito. And price. And the music! Eating with the Temptations is what I like

So the Adobo chicken was not quite as good as it should have been (after tasting and reading this recipe I've made a few times myself) but the problem started when one of our drinks didn't show up (all had taken some time). The rest of the food was tasty but honestly average and overpriced for what we got. But... More

We made a trip to Harlem mainly to try Red Rooster. I have to say, we enjoyed our visit, but the experience didn't rate a repeat visit. The staff was all very friendly, and the atmosphere is very lively. Unfortunately, our server was terrible. He was very personable and friendly, but he had no clue how to be a waiter.... More

As a Swede it is almost mandatory to visit and support Marcus Samuelsson restaurant up in Harlem. Being known as a great cook, the Red Rooster was no disappointment. Marcus greeted us at the door and then the very serviceminded waitresses and waiters took over. Atmosphere is busy but not noisy. Sitting next to the kitchen as we did, it... More

Everything from drinks, appetizers, main course, desserts, was wonderfully seasoned and enjoyed. Good service and a great place to meet and greet. Lots of positive energy generated by fascinating people, New York's movers and shakers. We got to talk to some of them. And thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had some of those doughnut balls pictured on the left. Light, sweet,... More
