The Statler Grill harkens back to the golden age of the big band era, and is named after Ellsworth Statler, who ran the Hotel Pennsylvania from 1919 to 1954, when musicians such as Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie and Glenn Miller played at the Cafe Rouge, the hotel's main dining room. The Statler serves classic New York steakhouse prime steaks and chops as well as daily delivered fresh seafood, while the bar and lounge serve a delicious grill menu. Located just steps away from Pennsylvania Station and Madison Square Garden, it is the perfect place to have a breakfast meeting, a meal before an event at the Garden, or just to relax with friends and co-workers during happy hour before you hop on the train. It is all about the food and service says owner Joseph Lavelle. "I want my guests to enjoy themselves, have a great meal and return again and again".

It was fine

I was looking for steak and stumbled across the Statler Grill by chance. Once I was seated and settled, I really didn't feel like spending $40 for a steak. I know a good steak can get really pricy in New York but, the atmosphere and service didn't warrant the price. I ended up getting an entrée... read more

My husband and I have enjoyed 2 meals here. We like to go to early dinners on the weekend so it is not crowded. The steaks were delicious. They were tender and cooked perfectly. The drinks were also well made.

We did use a groupon for 4. The menu offered a good selection for everyone. The carnivores ate steak. I chose salmon. We ordered onion soup, tomatoes and mozzarella, and calamari. My only comment was the calamari was a bit over cooked. The soup and tomatoes and mozzarella were very good. The steaks were also very good. The salmon too.... More

After reading several mixed reviews I was a little nervous as we celebrated my wife's birthday at Statler Grill last night. We got a great deal on a groupon for 4 and are happy to advise that everything served was top shelf. Our waiter, a charming, straight talking and highly competent Antonio Banderas lookalike advised us well to order the... More

Had the 44 oz. steak/ roast with my wife! Everything was pretty expensive. The food was about average but in a busy area! Not bad!

What a tourist trap. Dry, tough over priced juice less steaks, disappearing waiters, just a overall tourist trap. With so many "real" steak houses in NYC don't try this one.

Although this is a cozy historic place, it was bland and expensive. I ordered a salad, ice tea and chicken parm (which does not come with noodles - just the chicken) which was $45 before the tip. Just OK in the flavor department for me.

The lobster roll is the best you'll find. Even better than getting one in Maine. It's fresh and prepared amazingly well. The huge mound of shoestring potatoes isn't hard to take either. Pricey, but well worth it.

Vintage Grill. Excellent location. Walk1/2block from Affinia hotel. Fresh Long Island Blue point oysters. Husband reordered. That good. Shrimp parmigiana was good. Aged prime rib was Excellent. Full house. Dinners enjoyed no rush dining. We are planning our next meal here.

The food was wonderful. I loved the french onion soup! Our steak was cooked perfectly and was tender. Our waiter was great. He chose a wonderful bottle of wine for us, and was very attentive to our needs. I will be back.
