Description: The Statler Grill harkens back to the golden age of the big band era, and...
The Statler Grill harkens back to the golden age of the big band era, and is named after Ellsworth Statler, who ran the Hotel Pennsylvania from 1919 to 1954, when musicians such as Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie and Glenn Miller played at the Cafe Rouge, the hotel's main dining room. The Statler serves classic New York steakhouse prime steaks and chops as well as daily delivered fresh seafood, while the bar and lounge serve a delicious grill menu. Located just steps away from Pennsylvania Station and Madison Square Garden, it is the perfect place to have a breakfast meeting, a meal before an event at the Garden, or just to relax with friends and co-workers during happy hour before you hop on the train. It is all about the food and service says owner Joseph Lavelle. "I want my guests to enjoy themselves, have a great meal and return again and again".

Good food, a little run down and way too loud

We arrived and it was incredibly loud and a bit run down. The first question the hostess asked me is if I had a coupon. Our table wasn't ready and we waded to the bar where they said they would get us. After getting drinks and waiting for a long time, I went to the hostess. Our table was ready... read more

By night this is a white cloth dream restaurant with a chilled seafood platter to die for, and steaks the size worth of top Chicago steak houses but by day, the owners cater, for financial reasons I'm sure, to free buffet breakfast for the guests at the Pennsylvania Hotel and it is head spinningly different. I raved about it to... More

save your money. I purchased a groupon deal to this restaurant and I still was ripped off. From the appetizers, to our main course which was supposed to be a porterhouse steak for 2. It was Tuff and very fatty.to our desserts which were half dollar size cheesecakes which were horrible. Save your money and skip this Steak Joint.

Went there for a dinner special using a Groupon certificate so food selections were limited. Appetizers were fine ,Chilean Sea Bass that my wife had was good but the sirloin really disappointing. About a third of it was inedible(fat, gristle, sinew)There was no attempt to properly trim the meat. Their steak sauce looked and tasted like ketchup. Side dished so-so. Definitely not... More

Decent drinks, good shrimp cocktail, so so sliced filet give this place mixed reviews. Not bad to drop in before the Long Island Rail Road commute. Wish it was better & candidly busier as no one like to dine in an empty restaurant at 7:30 PM. Yes, I'll go back, but guessing not too often.

This was one of the few times I was completely happy with a groupon purchase. Got a sweet deal where it was only $85. It consisted of 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 desserts and a bottle of wine. The hostess and waiter were very nice especially given that they knew we were using a groupon. Sometimes the staff at other... More

I ate here with a friend. We arrived with no booking but was shown to a table quickly. Food choice was good and I shared potato skins as a starter with my friend and had steak as main course. Potato skins were not really skins, more half a jacket potato with cheese topping. However, it was tasty. Steak was cooked... More

We were not sure what this was going to be like, but the service was excellent and the food was amazing. We had baked clams to start, fillet mignon with spinach in garlic and creamy mash potatoes with lobster.
