Oysters and oyster shooters

Open corner restaurant. Started things off right with Tequila oyster shooter. Then 18 oysters (3 of each for 3 of us) were tasty and it was interesting to taste the different types. It would have been nice to better explain what they served. Service was slow and seating host was snobby... read more

I have tried their oyster and oyster shots, both amazing. The bar also has very lively and relaxed atmosphere.

Until I went to this restaurant, I didn't think you could get a truly horrible meal in NYC. There are far too many decent places to spend your hard earned money in NYC to put up with this abuse.

I have frequented the John Dory in Manhattan several times over the past few years. Although I enjoy trying new places when visiting New York City, it's always nice to have a solid stand by. The John Dory is that place for me, and it's always reliable. The Oysters are fresh, and the Cocktails are skillfully mixed and served by... More

Without a doubt April Bloomfield's cooking is superb: straight on gutsy flavors, perfectly cooked. The fish dishes are inventive and delicious. I do not like that the main courses come with nothing even though they cost 20 to 35 dollars each and you must pay for bread which is the only starch, no potatoes to be seen at any price.... More

The ambience is great and the place is beautiful. Staff is attentive and fast. The food was awesome. The lobster sandwich was the best i ever had. However i was a bit surprise with the smallness of the ceviche. In any case it is agreat place to go.

Fresh Seafood, Intersting Drinks, Great Service make for a terrific meal. Greg the Sommelier took the time with us to get it for us. The rose was one of the best I had in recent times and his recommendation of sherry at meals end was perfect. My wife always enjoys the soups which constantly change but are always delicious. The... On our first visit to John Dory, our party was immediately sent to the bar, apparently for a time out to think about what we had done wrong--something I used to do with my kids. Let me explain. We had an early reservation as we were going to the theater after dinner. We arrived 15 minutes early thinking that maybe... More

Look, I'm not a food critic...but I will say this...it takes a little more than good oysters to really shine. It's the smaller things that warrant good reviews. And they missed the mark with the smaller things. Let me start with the bartender. Upon arrival, sitting at the bar, it would have been nice to receive a hello at the... More
