Great oysters, atmosphere, cocktails

I had a half dozen oysters (local Long Island oysters (Naked Cowboys), and some Royal Miyagi. They were perfect, plump, clean and crisp...with a little mignonette. Had a Hendricks gin martini to wash it down. That was it. Chatted with the bartender and hostess a bit, super friendly and... read more

My wife and I joined friends here for dinner (their choice) and we were all looking forward to it. Unfortunately we all left disappointed. The food was OK, but the portions were small (really small). Our waitress was making an effort, but the service was notably poor. The price was high and we all felt that we'd had little value... More

Late lunch on a Saturday. Love the atmosphere and energy. Seafood sliders on a Parker House roll-how fun! My wife had lobster scrambled eggs which were perfect. Sit where you can watch the foot traffic go by outside, enjoy the creative food ands selection from the varied wine list. Only complaint is its pricy for the size of the servings--though... More

After having watched a programme declaring that the John Dory's 'carte de musica' was the best bite in Manhattan, we had to go. Although the cured tuna roe (bottarga) between two buttered crackers was amazingly tasty with a beautiful texture, the same can't really be said for the rest if the menu. We had the semolina and scallop soup which... More

Inventive food well prepared. Can be difficult to find a seat, so make a reservation or find a place at the bar.

I had long been looking forward to visiting John Dory. After a walk through Eataly and a glass of wine we entered this restaurant with high expectations. That might have been the problem. The oysters were okay and the setting okay but just that.

I frequented the John Dory Oyster Bar multiple times when I lived in the city. The happy hour deals are great. The oyster selections rotate frequently. I love the whelks, olive appetizer, and Parker house rolls. I haven't dined often on the large plates, but I've never disliked an appetizer I've had here. And the oyster shooter mix is the... More

Raw Bar and cocktails are the main attractions here, and they do it very well. We enjoyed three different kinds of oysters, all yummy. The entrees are really tapas style small plates and a few soups, not full dinners, so you can indulge in the raw bar offerings and still sample the food. All recommended are the bluefish, burrata and... More

A fantastic oyster bar. Great food quality, fresh and with virtual no cooking. But the hand of he Cook is evident. Staff attentive 100$/head with a beer and glass of wine - not a bottle, I mean - is a bit too much even in a very expencive city like NY.

John Dory is more than a place to meet for a drink. The seafood platter is delicious (the welks are the highlight) and is served with delicious dipping sauces. There is a chefs table in the kitchen where we went to celebrate my mom's birthday. We had great service and my sister thought it was one of the best meals... More
