Very food meal/service downtown in comfortable setting

Pros; Very good food, attentive service in a hip downtown setting close to IRT. Seating is comfortable for a restaurant with a big bar Cons: Other reviews indicate that service may be very waiter specific. Something no patron can control without the name of the "good" wait staff.

My wife and I went for dinner. We asked the waiter for recommendations, and he did not offer any good advice. We ordered a flat bread and a trio of tartare for appetizers. After we were served the appetizers the waiter decided to come back and recommend a better flat bread "for next time". it would have been good to... More

While attending a conference at a nearby hotel, a friend and I decided to sneak out for a bit. We stumbled upon Plein Sud between the brunch service and the dinner service, but they accommodated us. Wonderful wine list and tasty small plates to accompany them. Loved the rustic-though-modern decor. Service was friendly and helpful and the pours were beyond... More

Wauw, i so enjoyed my blueberrypancakes with mascarpone and maplesyrup... They were delicious and more than enough for me. My friend had a grillen chicken sandwich and that was also very tasty! I had the pancakes for brunch so if you cant make it for breakfast... ;-) not so far from the 9/11 Memorial

I had such light, delicious blueberry marscapone pancakes that were fabulous! My friend got a flatbread with onions that was delicious as well. Seating is comfortable and didn't get too loud in the restaurant, which sometimes is a problem with crowded brunch places. Price is a bit high, but given the great location, it's expected.

I have reviewed Plein Sud before and recommended it as a nice place for French fare. It has been a go-to restaurant for me for a few years and I have had small group meals there multiple times. At Christmas we had some problems with a group of 13 at lunch, but it got sorted out after I complained about... More

Food was below average quality an the cocktail the bar tender suggested was not good. We had a large group have dinner downstairs at the Toro lounge. The decor was not great, there was no ambiance.

Great food and bar next to the lobby Smyth hotel. The staff is friendly and the food is great. They had one of my favorite French beers Kronenbourg 1664 on tap. Try the beer and their French onion soup with your meal and you will be very happy then go downstairs to the Toro nightclub to listen to music and... More

So much for that old saying that you can always find food at night anywhere in NYC. I was in Tribeca and 10pm roaming the streets looking for food. Luckily Plein Sud was opened. The service was great, the waiter was able to recommend the dishes, and it is kid friendly with a children's menu and crayons as well. My... More

We come here often as the food is very good and there is always space to eat. The service used to be very good, but has markedly declined in recent months. The restaurant should improve its service.

Neighborhood Profile
TriBeCa
What’s in a name? In this case it is the unique title of “Triangle Below Canal Street” that became a popular nickname in the 1970s. An attractive neighborhood filled with handsome lofts on the edge of the Financial District, this lovely slice of Manhattan offers plenty of fine dining experiences and art galleries. Plus, it’s home to the city’s most exciting film event, the Tribeca Film Festival, that takes place here every year. TriBeCa is a great place to take a leisurely stroll before stopping into one of the many local restaurants or bars for a satisfying meal and cocktail. You’ll see families out for an afternoon walk, and don’t be surprised to come up with the occasional celebrity sighting. With such a great vibe, many of the city’s most famous residents call this neighborhood home.
