Hang out and enjoy excellent cocktails

I stopped by a few hours before my flight back home. Bob Dylan, John Lennon, and David Bowie songs played overhead. The dark paneling and small quarters made for a cozy visit. I enjoyed sitting and writing and watching the passers by. Try the Wake Up Call, a delicious tequila cocktail.

Rye House is a nice cozy place to hang out and the staff are very nice and friendly. Its a great place for a quick bite to eat because the menu is limited and the prices are reasonable. I would recommend this place and definitely try the duck quisadias is delicious!!!

Rye House has an attractive ambiance and a nice neighborhood feel but it simply does not excel. Our server was fine, cocktails good and our food was... Food. For the prices the place commands I did not see any chef worthy preparation being exhibited. I would recommend sticking to their very quality drinks and keep the food light. A solid... More

Loud, busy, open pub-style restaurant near Union Square. Menu is not sophisticated but the simple foods at least were well-prepared. I ate fish tacos and my friend ate a reuben sandwich. A bit overpriced considering what we were eating, but as this was dinner in a prime location in New York I suppose I cannot complain much. Large beer selection... More

One of our favorite spots in NYC,and one of the very few places we continue to revisit. Great atmosphere and selection of whiskeys. Their cocktail list is excellent too and although the food menu is small, everything is done very well!

If you like whiskey and good american food this place is awesome. Firstly, the prices are pretty decent and should only be $$-$$$, not $$$$ as trip advisor states. I couldn't help but go for a tasting of 4 Japanese whiskeys for $35. So pleased but would of preferred a lil heavier pour. I know, wouldn't we all. My group... More

Hot bar and the menu is more of a bar menu than a restaurant in terms of selection. However, the bur rata was amazing as was the Pittsburgh sandwich. They have a burger, fish tacos, a kale salad, and 15 or so other selections. Based upon what we had we will go back to try some other things. And again,... More

Went here one night before dinner at the Union Square Cafe. This is a great alternative to Raines Law Room (same street) if you can not get in there, or on your way to it. Also right down the street from the W Hotel in Union Square where we stayed. This place also gets pretty busy. Very classic NYC bar,... More

While this place gets crowded quick and has limited space, I really enjoyed trying out the NY-based Scotches and the food here. When I sat down, I found the staff was very attentive and willing to explain things.

Again, we found this through a listing of best whiskey bars in New York. It was fantastic, we tried their beers and the whiskey samplers. The drinks were incredible, the service discreet and the atmosphere cosy and welcoming. Our whiskey samplers were a real education as well as very welcome after a day of wandering around NYC in the cold.... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
