Good cheap eats

The Meatball Shop was a pleasant suprise- mostly for the really good veggies. The meatballs were tasty and importantly, they grind the meat there, which promotes freshness. The ambience was pleasant, as was the service. All in all, a good experience for a very inexpensive place.

We sat at the bar and enjoyed the slider and smashed meatball entrees. I tried the two beef meatballs and the chicken meatball. I had three different sauces- spicy beef sauce, creamy parmesan, and pesto. We also tried two drinks- the sangria and the fool aid- both delicious if you are looking for something sweet. Prices were reasonable - $3... More

Met some friends here and enjoyed the cozy dining set up--you get meatballs here. Nothing over the top-many varieties, some healthy sides, some comfort food, and just a great experience. I send everyone here when they visit to get a feel for how New Yorkers would enjoy a meal out to catch up with friends.

We stopped by The Meatball Shop, which was recommended to us, for lunch. I would definitely pass on the recommendation. They have got it bang on here, the menus are fun and simple to use. Choose a meetball, choose a sauce, choose a side. Done. Nothing complicated, nothing fancy, just delicious food. Good service too.

We make a point of eating at this place whenever we visit NYC. The balls are excellent. There is a specials board with great new combinations every day. Be sure to leave room for a made to order ice cream sandwich. To die for!

I literally pushed my family into trying out this highly rated eatery . We had been browsing the stores in the Lower East Side and everyone was famished. Sadly none of the dishes lived up to what one expected after reading the rave reviews and the meatballs themselves were insipid. Most of us left our dishes unfinished !

The food was great, the atmosphere was even better! We kept coming back to this place as it was very close to our hotel. The staff were super friendly. There are so many choices that even a fussy eater can be satisfied!

I would definitely recommend this place! Their food was quality. I had the chicken meatballs with the parmesan cream sauce and mashed potatoes. My boyfriend had the beef meatballs with classic tomato sauce and risotto. Both were the perfect combination!

Just ate at The Meatball Shop and enjoyed it very much. I had the beef meatballs with the mushroom sauce, tasted so homey. This being my first time there required a little explanation. Our server Julia was excellent, providing excellent customer service from the beginning to the end. What was especially helpful was when she relocated us from the indoor... More

Staying in Lower East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Lower East Side
Straddling the bridge between New York’s thriving immigrant past and its modern transformation into a beacon of global art and culture, the Lower East Side is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in the city. The blocks of tenements that represented the promise and blight of the Lower East Side immigrant experience now command top dollar for new residents. Right next to old-world delis, 24-hour bodegas, and the garment shops of Orchard Street, you’ll find hip clubs, fashionable bistros, and luxury hotels beckoning at all hours of the evening. If you love nightlife and live music, it’s hard to beat the scene here.
