Delicious Coal Oven Neopolitan

We couldn't make it to our favourite, Juliana's, Brooklyn (the real Grimaldi's), so gave Motorino's a try as we were in the area. Cozy, cool, stripped down East Village pizza parlour. Great lunch special of a pie and a salad, more then enough food for two for $14. These are great coal oven pizzas... read more

We hit Motorino on 12th a few days ago and were favorably impressed. The pizza was quite good and the service was prompt. Authentic tomato forward Italian fare which is sure to please. Great find!

The pizza was great! As a couple, we shared a Soppresata Piccante and it was just the right amount of food if you're not starving. We also tried the Gragnano semi-sparkling wine. It was a very interesting pair with the pizza! My date loved it, I thought it was okay. Certainly different, and probably worth trying!

I visited here with a friend, as we had been wandering around Brooklyn on foot and read some good reviews. It's true that this is one of those smaller places with limited staff, but our server actively ignored us. We sat and stared at empty plates for 20 minutes while she set four or five tables, none of which were... More

Motorino is my go-to place for a quick pizza lunch in the East Village / Union Square area. Their lunch special includes a salad and a choice of Neapolitan style pizza. I tried the soppressata as a change to the margherita and it was delicious. the crust is doughy as it should with a little burn from the wood-fire oven,... More

After all the individuals who talked up Motorino's to me, it certainly fell short of expectations. The crust on my pizza was half burnt, the tomato sauce was so watery that it dripped off my slice to form a soup on my plate, and the cheese was scant. Thanks, but no thanks. This place is too pricey for the product... More

Great Neopolitan-style pizza (doughy crust roasted to perfection, San Marzano tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil) with tasty side options. The individual pies are enough for two, or leftovers taste mighty good. Tables are close together but service is friendly and impeccable.

What an amazing little gem is this. Away from all the New York noise is this small little Italian place. The place was empty but vibrant. They had an open kitchen which was awesome. Over the radio were some classic American tunes and the waitress spoiled us with attention. I had the prosciutto pizza... Outstanding! When it got a bit... More

Small, quaint place. Delicious, brick oven pizza. Waiters are always friendly and welcoming. Love this pizza! It is so worth a visit!

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
