Wonderful experience!

I had dinner at Mari Vanna with my kids. We loved everything, especially varenniki and pelmeni. Special thank you to Elena Melnikova who was so nice to send me my hat which I left at the restaurant. We will be back!

Just like stepping into a charming Russian cottage!! We were lucky enough to get a little table at the window so we could soak up the cottage charm and delight in the passing pedestrians! We tried the piroshki, blintz with caviar and the beef stroganoff- all just like the real deal! Delicious and authentic. Can definitely recommend this lovely little... More

They sometimes also have an accordionist playing Russian music The tasting menu is a lot of fun as they bring you surprises and everything I ever ate there was good! Recommended drink- the one with hot pepper in it!

We convinced our friends to dine with us at this restaurant. (I think many people think Russian food is just goulash or unrefined food.) Afterwards, they were so delighted and talked about it for days. The decor is so cute and charming. One of our friends asked where she could buy similar plates. The staff is very good and friendly.... More

We were here for a Sunday brunch. The food was excellent and there were Mimosas served with the buffet. The atmosphere was great. The staff were very good at refilling water and mimosas.

This place is wonderful, from the doorbells to the plates and the presentation. Even the wallpaper is cool. Very authentic Russian food; get the dumplings and borscht. Not cheap, so budget accordingly.

My wife and I made a reservations the other night and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We started things off with the blinis, red caviar and salmon, plus a bowl of borscht. That in and of itself would have made a nice meal with the accompanying bread and salt. However we continued onward and ordered chicken shashlik. The meat was juicy... More

Decor makes you think Soviet Union and KGB. Food is great, but pricey. Drinks are excellent. Being a Russian restaurant, there is a wide selection of vodka. Service is excellent. Make sure to make reservations. The location and quality food made MV pretty popular.

Food is not good and overpriced. Spend your money elsewhere - for example at Gramercy Tavern across the street. Of course, these two restaurants are in different leagues and cater to different budgets; but I would go with something else.

Was my first night in New York and I was invited to this place, the atmosphere was just perfect, the lights, music. I can't say anything negative at all. The food was to die for and the service was excelent! When I will be back in New York I will be back for sure.

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
