The food is good and they have a huge flavored vodka list. I love the shabby chic vibe inside. All in all a fun spot.

Ordered Mushroom Soup and Veal Dumplings. Reminded of food my grandfather used to cook for me... decades ago. I will certainly return to this quaint restaurant during my next visit to NYC.

We were a group of 5 celebrating a belated fathers Day on a Blini Night (Wednesday.) We were promptly seated and our waitress explained our options in a very friendly manner. Service was attentive without being obtrusive.

Just a great place for any occasion, can't wait to get back. Try the infused vodka, the food is very true Russian fare, a bit expensive

Stopped by the other day attracted by funny outdoor sign, the interior was charming and staff looked very welcoming - so we ended up inside, - turned out it was the best part about this place. Oh, and the musician was really good. The food: OK but not even close to what they are charging. C'mon, any place in Brooklyn... More

Russian restaurant with interesting food and nicely decorated. We ordered a selection of appetizers and enjoyed them all, but the music was so loud we found ourselves shouting to have a discussion. We were refused when we asked to turn down the music.

Have been taken to Mari Vanna twice by a American-Russian collegue. Enjoyed it thoroughly both times. Delicious fish, pickles, beautiful breads. A very homely and welcoming atmosphere.

I have read a lot of reviews saying that this is the closest you get to home-cooked Russian food, but was underwhelmed. The food was pretty good, but nothing spectacular -- nothing compared to my grandmother's cooking. The pros: - Atmosphere is superb. The cons: - Service is meh. Perhaps I was there on a busy night, but it took... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
