A true Spanish experience

FourSquare helped me find this place. The reviews were very promising and very true as well. The place is very small which adds to the experience. When we walked in I didn't think we would be able to get a table. But we were very kindly welcomed and were able to sit at a table while a better table... read more

Overall it was a good experience. Atmosphere was great and staff very friendly in a very small but cosy place. According to my experience though the tapas were not the best I have tried compared to the ones I tried in other parts of the world and in Spain where I have been several times. The tortilla lacked seasoning and... More

Being Spanish i really appreciate tapas at it's best. NYC suddenly becomes Spain at this small, inviting little charming place. Great tapas and jamon but the sangria is absolute to die for. The staff speaks fluent Spanish and you can just stay there for hours...Me encanta!

If you're looking for a fantastic Spanish restaurant in NYC, hit up Pata Negra. For anyone who has been to Spain and took advantage of the cuisine, specifically Iberico Ham, Jamon or Pata Negra itself, then you'll really appreciate this establishment. Its a very small place, with only a few tables, so make reservations well in advance. When you do... More

Went here for my birthday. Had made a reservation, but it was a Saturday night and it was packed. It's a tiny place. The manager/owner was so accommodating and friendly it turned what could have been an ugly experience into an amazing one. I had just gotten back from Spain and I was thrilled with the quality of the food.... More

Have been here a few times, and each time have had a terrific experience. The place is rather small, so I would advise making a reservation in advance to avoid wait times. The food is delicious and the sangria is generous. If you order a pitcher, you will get a full pitcher and a full glass of sangria. The overall... More

I lived in Spain for a semester of college -- 20 years ago -- and this place made it feel like I was back there. The food was fantastic and so authentic. The Spanish waiter (with his Madrid accent) was charming, helpful, and attentive. The place is tiny but it's still only one guy cooking everything! He is amazing. I'm... More

I have eaten at this restaurant several times and have been impressed each and every time. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The wines are great. We always order a bottle of the juve y camps cava. It is so delicious. The tapas are served with the freshest ingredients and are delectable. I highly recommend this intimate tapas... More

If you are a sherry enthusiast or want to learn more about the hippest fortified wine these days, Pata Negra is an awesome neighbourhood gem with knowledgeable staff. They have a few dozen sherries on the list and all are worth trying! For non-sherry drinkers, tapas are great, and so is the wine!

An intimate and small atmosphere perfect for a date. We ordered a pitcher of sangria and a few Tapas that were all delicious. And the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Overall awesome meal!

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
